“Woman of faith” AOC gets Sunday Schooled after accusing religious freedom advocates of “weaponizing” the Bible, like white supremacists

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she’s tired of religious liberty advocates “weaponizing” the Bible to “justify bigotry,” just like white supremacists, slave owners and segregationists did. The New York congresswoman, who described herself as a “woman of faith”, made the comments during a Thursday House Oversight Committee hearing about the Trump administration’s “religious liberty assault on LGBTQ rights.” Ms Ocasio-Cortez retweeted a video of her speech on Sunday, saying: “There’s a long history in the US of abusing scripture to advance the causes of bigotry & discrimination. Slaveholders did it. Segregationists did it. White supremacists do it. And it continues. Yet……

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she’s tired of religious liberty advocates “weaponizing” the Bible to “justify bigotry,” just like white supremacists, slave owners and segregationists did.

The New York congresswoman, who described herself as a “woman of faith”, made the comments during a Thursday House Oversight Committee hearing about the Trump administration’s “religious liberty assault on LGBTQ rights.”

Ms Ocasio-Cortez retweeted a video of her speech on Sunday, saying: “There’s a long history in the US of abusing scripture to advance the causes of bigotry & discrimination. Slaveholders did it. Segregationists did it. White supremacists do it. And it continues. Yet if Christ repeated himself today, they’d likely denounce him as a radical, too.”

Apart from the fact that slave owners, segregationists and white supremacists largely belonged to the Democratic party, Ms Ocasio-Cortez demonstrates a woeful understanding of the Bible, as Blaze TV’s Allie Beth Stuckey pointed out:

“The same God you claim to worship invented marriage (Eph. 5:23); defined gender (Gen. 1:27); prohibits partiality towards the poor (or rich) (Lev. 19:15); designated borders (Acts 17:26); requires work (2 Thess. 3:9-10); commands free (not compulsive) generosity (2 Cor. 9:7).

Ms Stuckey continued: “The commands Christ gives to care for the poor and the vulnerable was, of course, a charge to Christians–done freely with the power of the Holy Spirit. It was not a charge to delegate this responsibility to the government by way of oppressive taxation.

“In addition from terrible theology, she obviously shows astounding historical & constitutional ignorance,” Ms Stuckey went on to say. “She is advocating for forcing Christians, Muslims, etc. who believe in traditional gender/marriage to contradict their beliefs for fear of gov punishment. Sound good?

“Of course it doesn’t–because it’s that kind of persecution that has defined every totalitarian nation that’s ever existed. It’s fundamental to all liberty. You can’t have any freedom of any kind without it.

“And! Cares about life inside the womb (Psalm 139),” she added.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the first Democrat to misrepresent Jesus for a cause in recent weeks. Late last month, openly gay, pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg said support of President Trump could not be reconciled with the Bible.

During a presidential townhall, CNN’s Erin Burnett asked Buttigieg if it was “impossible to be a Christian and support Trump.”

“I’m not going to tell other Christians how to be Christian, but I will say I cannot find any compatibility between the way this president conducts himself and anything I find in Scripture,” he said. “Now, I guess that’s my interpretation, but I think that it’s a lot of people’s interpretation and that interpretation deserves a voice.”

In the words of the brilliant R.C. Sproul, “Isn’t it amazing that almost everyone has an opinion to offer about the Bible, and yet so few have studied it?”

Australia does not need race-based antisemitism laws; it needs a pro-Australian legal framework that applies equally to all and punishes harmful conduct regardless of who commits it or who the victim is.
