Facebook says it’s ‘hate speech’ to refer to Islamic terrorists as ‘Muslims’
One of the obvious issues with ‘hate speech’ rules is just how arbitrarily they can be applied by those in power. Take Facebook, for instance: This week we were banned not only for referring to Islamic terrorists as “Muslims”, but also for an article we shared which was critical of Facebook for using ‘hate speech’ violations as a means of censoring unapproved ideas. According to Facebook, breaching their standards and policy “could lead to limitations such as a Page being unpublished, reduced distribution and more.” It’s becoming a real issue, as anyone following Senator Ted Cruz and the Senate Judiciary…
WATCH: Greens leader promises to introduce laws to regulate media and crack down on ‘hate speech’ from political opponents
Australian Greens leader Richard Di Natale has said he will introduce new laws to regulate the media in an effort to crack down on “hate speech” issued by his political opponents, such as Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones. “We’re going to call out the hate speech that’s been going on,” Di Natale told supporters at a rally. “We’re going to make sure that we’ve got laws that regulate our media so that if people like Andrew Bolt, and Alan Jones, and Chris Kenny, and I could go on and on and on — if they want to use hate speech…
“All have sinned”: Facebook removes Christian sermon and suspends individual who shared it, “You posted hate speech”
Facebook has removed a link to a sermon and temporarily suspended the individual who shared it because, apparently, some Christian doctrines violate the platform’s community standards on “hate speech.” The 9-minute clip was taken from a message delivered by missionary and evangelist Paul Washer in which he detailed the biblical doctrine known as Total Depravity. The doctrine of Total Depravity deals with the state of humanity after sin entered the world (Gen. 3), and how every part of man — his mind, will, emotions, and flesh — have been corrupted by sin. At the close of the message, Washer says:…
UK Government plans to hit Facebook and Google with huge fines if they fail to eradicate ‘hate speech’ and harmful content.
Business Insider: The British government plans to hit social-media firms with fines potentially worth billions of dollars if they fail to rid their platforms of content considered harmful. In an interview with Business Insider, the UK’s digital minister, Margot James, said a new independent tech regulator would be given powers to punish companies, including Facebook and Google, found not to properly protect users. The plans are set to be detailed in full in a policy paper on internet safety next month, but James gave Business Insider some insight into the government’s thinking on how the new sanctions regime could work. It…
Facebook suspends Franklin Graham for sharing biblical ‘hate speech’… two-years ago!
CBN News: Evangelist Franklin Graham has revealed that he was recently suspended from Facebook for taking a stand for his biblical beliefs. The temporary ban lasted 24 hours, and while the censorship itself is shocking enough, it was also surprising that the ban was retroactive, resulting from a comment he made two years ago. “Well, now we know. Facebook has a secret rulebook for policing speech. I was banned from posting on Facebook last week for 24 hours. Why? Because of a post from back in 2016 about North Carolina’s House Bill 2 (the bathroom bill),” Graham explained in a…
Political Correctness and ‘hate speech’ laws are the secular equivalent of Sharia Law.
Political correctness in its excessive form is the secular equivalent of Shari’a law. It might not have the full judicial weight of Western law behind it yet, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t trying to manipulate the system so as to implement it. I used to think that the only thing wrong with political correctness was the excesses that went along with it. Take the good, reject the bad. However, the more I learn from those who practice and enforce the ideals of political correctness, the more I arrive at the conclusion that political correctness is the secular version of…
Instagram deems Bible as hate speech: Seize the moment and share it with the whole globe… unless it is Christian.
It has been the majority view (and biblical view) in Church History that the role of Pastor / Elder is reserved for men only. This isn’t because women are considered inferior to men, but rather the focus is on different God given roles (despite what today’s culture may say men and women are different, yet equal). Recently, Founders Ministries, which is a conservative Baptist organisation, posted a theological article entitled, “Only Men May be Pastors,” on their website and social media platforms. This article, which was written by Pastor Tom Hicks, sets for a very strong biblical case for the…
Hate speech is a myth: It’s a shaming control technique used by those who can’t debate the issue.
By no means is this a conclusive run down on what I see as the need to find, and advocate for, a fair use of the vehicles we choose to communicate, and receive information through. By pointing out inconsistencies, and connecting them to a possible cause, my purpose here is primarily an attempt to suggest, that when it comes to social media, we practice the proverb of looking before we leap. A few years back an incident showed me the contrast between hard reality, and cheap comment. Comments from people, who in the comfort of relative security, only seem to be far more concerned with the side of the story that sells best, than with finding balance. Surely,…
Hate speech laws are for people who can’t handle their own emotions.
In the debate about whether we create or discover a writing voice, it doesn’t matter which side of the camp you land on. It’s generally agreed that a writing voice takes time to develop. When I started a blog in 2013, I had no real idea how it would develop. My plan was to use the blog as a way of networking, and as a way of improving my own writing skills. In my post-graduate world, I wasn’t sure a blog would achieve either. Looking back, I can see areas where I’ve succeeded, and I can also see areas where…
Billboard removed after dictionary definition of ‘woman’ deemed offensive, transphobic hate speech.
A billboard quoting the dictionary definition of ‘woman’ has been removed after it was deemed transphobic hate speech. The poster, created by Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, founder of women’s rights group Standing for Women, was erected in Liverpool and quoted the definition of woman, according to Google dictionary: ‘woman, women, noun, adult human female.’ Soon after the billboard was installed, NHS doctor and LGBTQ activist Adrian Harrop complained that the posters were dangerous and made transgender people feel unsafe. “There is no place for hatred, exclusion or transphobia in Liverpool,” Harrop said on Twitter. “This billboard was funded by a transphobic hate…
Numerous ‘NO’ voters to face legal action for posting ‘hate speech’ online during same-sex marriage postal survey.
The LGBTI Legal Service will put 25 individuals before the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland for comments posted online during last year’s Same-Sex marriage postal survey. According to the Brisbane Times, the LGBTI Legal Services received funding from the state government to “monitor and identify those engaging in unlawful hate speech during the postal survey period.” Matilda Alexander, president of LGBTI Legal Service said they had documented more than 220 examples of hate speech during the survey and legal action was being taken against the worst. Some of the offending comments included: “Burn all faggots #voteno”; “Hitler had the right idea about…
CNN contributor says, censorship of Alex Jones is ‘an important step in recognizing hate speech as a form of terrorism.’
CNN Opinion asked a group of contributors to weigh in on the mass censorship of Alex Jones and InfoWars. One contributor was Rafia Zakaria, a “Muslim-American” author and columnist for Dawn newspaper in Pakistan and The Baffler. Zakaria told CNN that she sees the mass deletion of InfoWars as “an important step in recognizing hate speech as a form of terrorism.” “This new decision is a step forward in recognizing that hate outlets, such as InfoWars, are complicit in domestic terror, and a relief to Muslim-Americans, like myself, who have been the target of online assaults and threats.” Nobody likes terrorism,…
Is it “hate speech” to suggest transgender material should not be recommended to children?
After it was brought to our attention that a Dymocks Bookstore was recommending transgender material to children, a number of negative reviews were left on the store’s official Facebook page. The reviews suggested that the store should not be promoting such material to children, given the fact that Australia’s Telethon Kids Institute has revealed close to 80% of trans youth had self-harmed, while almost 50% have attempted suicide. The store responded, suggesting these figures were due to lack of support in the children’s lives. It was then pointed out that even if that were the case, the store does not…
