The Trump administration has denied requests from U.S. embassies worldwide to fly the rainbow flag in celebration of LGBTQ Pride Month.
Vice President Mike Pence on Monday told NBC News he supported the State Department’s decision saying the only flag to fly on the flag pole of American embassies should be the American flag.
“As the president said on the night we were elected, we’re proud to be able to serve every American, and we both feel that way very passionately,” Pence said.
“But when it comes to the American flagpole, and American embassies, and capitals around the world, having the one American flag fly, I think is the right decision.”
The move comes as a reversal of the Obama administration’s decision to grant blanket approval for embassies to fly the rainbow pride flag during “Pride Month.”
According to ABC News, among those who had their request to fly the flag denied include the American embassies in Brazil, Germany, Israel, and Latvia.
