A former decorated Green Beret has been charged with premeditated murder after he killed a Taliban bomb maker responsible for the deaths of two U.S. Marines in his unit.
Major Matt Golsteyn could face the death sentence after he shot and killed the Taliban bomb maker during his third deployment to Afghanistan in 2010.
According to Fox News, the Army began investigating Golsteyn after he allegedly told the CIA in a job interview that he had killed a bomb maker who was not on the list of targets U.S. forces were cleared to kill.
In December, the case was brought to the attention of President Trump, who tweeted: “At the request of many, I will be reviewing the case of a ‘U.S. Military hero,’ Major Matt Golsteyn, who is charged with murder. He could face the death penalty from our own government after he admitted to killing a Terrorist bomb maker while overseas.”
Golsteyn’s wife, Julie, today posted a video on Twitter of her reaction back in December moments after her husband called her and informed her of the charge.
1) READ WHOLE THREAD FOR STORY! I have gone back and forth about posting this video for several reasons. This is extremely difficult for me to share because it is intensely raw and personal. Matt cannot even bring himself to watch or listen to it. pic.twitter.com/OSZZfXyx9M

“I recorded this because I knew it would be important to remind myself of how far we’ve come. And we have made such progress. We have shown this case to be exactly what it is: a vindictive retaliation for some and a career opportunity for others,” she tweeted.
“It’s not over yet, and we continue to fight. And when it’s ‘over’ for us, it’s not over. We will continue to advocate for others,” she added.
In February, Matt and Julie appeared on Fox News’ program ‘Fox & Friends’ for an exclusive interview.
