Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said once a vaccine for coronavirus has been found, it will be as “mandatory as you can possibly make it.”
Morrison made the comments while speaking with Neil Mitchell on 3AW this morning.
“There are always exceptions… on medical grounds, but that should be the only basis,” Morrison said.
“We’re talking about a pandemic that has destroyed the global economy and taken the lives of hundreds of thousands all around the world.”
“I was the minister that established ‘No jab, no play’, so my view on this is pretty clear,” he added.
The Prime Minister has also confirmed an agreement with British pharmaceuticals giant Astra Zeneca to secure 25 million doses of a vaccine being developed by Oxford University if it proves successful in human trials.
Morrison said if the vaccine works, the Government will manufacture it immediately and make it free for all Australians.
