A proposed Code of Conduct, which is open for public submissions until August 17, could force doctors to accept ‘cultural beliefs and practises’ that are opposed to good medical practise, according to a group of doctors. The Medical Board of Australia draft code of conduct that will apply to all Australian doctors requires doctors to be “culturally safe” and comply with a patient’s beliefs about gender identity and sexuality, with no provision given for a doctor to differ in their professional judgement. A doctors’ group convened by Dr Lachlan Dunjey of Perth, has expressed concern for the future of medicine…

The Australian Labor Party’s consultation draft claims to “distill the policies and enduring values that Labor aspires to implement in government.” According to the document, “all Australians have the right to exercise their freedom of speech” (p.187; 120), but with that freedom comes the responsibility not to “harm” others with your words. “Australia’s anti-vilification laws strike an appropriate balance between the right to free speech and protection from the harm of hate speech” (121). Words, either written or spoken, can cause actual harm, beyond “mere offence,” according to the ALP. Those who abuse the “responsibilities that come with freedom of…

In 2014, I got great pleasure from watching Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, the celebrated sci-fi led by Matthew McConaughey. Inspired by my father, I had read Arthur C. Clarke and H. G. Wells in my youth, and to me, Interstellar was a return to the purest sci-fi. It really understood the modernist spirit. Star-wars scarcely rates as the same genre, being much more of a fairy-tale, really (a long time ago, in a land far away, a young princess got kidnapped, by a nasty wizard…). Unlike fantasy fiction, in which power is super-natural and has some basis in past history, a…

The All Blacks have hit back after Australian rugby star, Israel Folau, caused controversy last month by publicly citing the biblical view of homosexuality. In a display of solidarity with the LGBTQ “community,” the New Zealand rugby team will now sport a jersey that reveals the LGBTQ rainbow when stretched. The new jerseys are part of the #DiversityIsStrength campaign, headed up by team sponsor AIG Insurance. An ad for the campaign was also released on the All Blacks official Facebook page. In call-to-arms style, the ad’s narrator calls for thousands, even millions, to help fight in the “next battle” against…

According to Life Site News, California is set to implement new sex education lessons which help promote abortion, transgenderism and homosexuality to children. While parents were previously given the option to remove their children from such lessons, one school district has told parents they will not be granted the choice. In a memo to the Orange County Board of Education, OC Department of Education general counsel Ronald Wenkart said the law’s opt-out provision “does not apply to instructions, material, or programming that discusses gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, relationships, or family and does not…

The NSW Justices Association received instruction from the NSW Department of Justice, earlier this week, warning Justices of the Peace could be suspended or fired if they refuse to witness for same-sex marriages. Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull once assured us, the Same-Sex Marriage bill would not “impose any restrictions on religious freedoms at all. Australians practice their religions with freedom, as we always have done and always will…” He then went on to say the bill itself made “no change to anti-discrimination laws.” This was the standard rhetoric we heard during the Same-Sex Marriage survey. “What’s it got to do with you?” YES voters asked. “If you don’t agree with gay marriage, don’t have one.” The idea was that, if same-sex marriage were to become legal, it would have zero impact on those…

The debate regarding Same-Sex Marriage is often framed with the language of “equality” and “human rights.” It’s argued, if some can exercise their right to marry, then why not all? Why is marriage a privilege only granted to some? Isn’t that discrimination? In the following clip, Voddie Baucham explains: Here’s [their] reasoning: Homosexuals have the right to marry; they do not desire to exercise the right as it currently exists; therefore, they do not have the right and the law must be changed… How about we change the first line? Pacifists have the right to join the military; they do…

According to 2GB, “women have been allowed in combat roles since 2013 but an exemption in the Sex Discrimination Act still allows discrimination against women being given those positions.” Should women be allowed to serve on the front line in combat roles? — Caldron Pool (@caldronpool) February 6, 2018 A proposal to remove that exemption has been opposed by Senator Cory Bernardi who told Ben Fordham, “I’m reflecting the view from the front line soldiers, from the SAS, and the Commando Regiment officers and members whom I…

The results of the same-sex plebiscite were announced on 15 November 2017, and a few weeks later Australia became the 26th nation in the world to legislate for same-sex marriage. The Prime Minister was beside himself, as he punched the air, like an Aussie batsman who had just scored a century against the old foe, England. ‘Australia has done it,’ he proclaimed, ‘What a day for love, for equality, for respect.’ Step aside Neville Chamberlain who was overjoyed at guaranteeing peace in our time in 1938. Here is Malcolm Turnbull in 2017: ‘This belongs to us all. This is Australia…

The Queensland Government no longer requires a person’s gender to be displayed on their driver’s licence. According to an internal document obtained by The Courier Mail, the move to make driver’s licences genderless followed complaints from the LGBTI community who argued the mandatory gender identification was discriminatory. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) confirmed the move towards genderless licences was due to the need to make driver’s and marine licences compliant with new anti-discrimination laws. According to the document: TMR has received complaints and suggestions from members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community about displaying…

Author, Pat Miller, once said, “The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way, the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed.” Paula Gerber, Professor of Human Rights Law, at Monash University, has recently stated: “…once the celebrations from Australia achieving marriage equality have subsided, the fight for LGBTI people to live free from discrimination will continue.” So, what does…

Forget about paid professional clergy, or people like me who’ve got a faith. If you’re a non-Christian or a non-Muslim and you want to express the idea that marriage is between a man and a woman, you could be taken to a tribunal. That’s just…
