Diane Abbott, British Labour MP and Shadow Home Secretary, believes “Mao did more good than harm.” Yes Mao, the Chinese communist revolutionary who founded the People’s Republic of China and is responsible for the deaths of 40-80 million people. In the video below, Abbott states:

I suppose that some people who judge that on balance Mao did more good than harm. You can’t say that about the Nazis.

Andrew Neil immediately interjected, “Mao killed tens-of-millions of people!” British journalist, Michael Portillo, who was also sharing the couch with Abbott asked, “Just tell me what was the good that he did that made up for the 60 million people he murdered?”

Well, he led his country from feudalism, he helped to defeat the Japanese… and he left his country on the verge of the, you know, the great economic success they’re having now.
