Viewers have been left stunned after a woman in the UK ‘married’ a dog live on a morning television show.

Elizabeth Hoad appeared on the UK program This Morning where she told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that she made the decision to marry a dog after giving up on men, following four failed engagements and over 200 dates.

“It was like we were meant to meet,” Ms Hoad said of her Golden Retriever, Logan. “He’s saved me and I’ve saved him. I was broken before I got him. I got a dog behaviourist when I first got him and she said he’d saved me.”

The bizarre ‘ceremony’ was officiated by Alison Hammond, who could barely keep a straight face when she asked if any person present had a “bone of contention as to why they might not be joined together”.

But who could really object to the union, if after all, “love is love”?
