The fires that have torn through the Australian landscape in recent weeks are without doubt the most widespread natural disaster in our nation’s living memory. Fellow Australians are hurting as they grieve the loss of properties, livelihoods and loved ones. Yet in the flames and through the smoke, there is hope, and evidence of God at work. The generosity of friends and strangers, the Australian spirit of mateship, and the reminder of what’s truly precious in life all speak to the presence of God in the midst of tragedy. Most profound of all, perhaps, are the mysterious stories that are…

A biological woman has been legally recognised as the “father” of the child she birthed, in a first for the state of Illinois. If that’s not confusing enough, the woman’s spouse, who is also transgender, will be listed as the “mother” on the child’s birth certificate, despite being born a biological male. “It was so crazy,” Myles Davis, 38, told the Chicago Tribune. “I never even thought the birth certificate would have misgendered us in that way.” Myles, and spouse, Precious, reported the problem to an employer at Equality Illinois and reached out to the LGBTQ rights group Lambda Legal,…

A 30-year-old South Australian man has been charged this week by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for possessing a child-like sex doll. According to a joint media release by the AFP and South Australia Police, the man was charged late Tuesday by the South Australia Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (SA JACET) under new Commonwealth laws targeting child abuse-related offences. If found guilty of possessing the anatomically-correct doll, the accused faces a potential 15-year jail term. SA JACET launched an investigation into the man’s activities after receiving intelligence from the NSW Police Force and Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC),…

A New York art gallery featured a pro-abortion exhibition this week, displaying artworks from a range of feminist-activists hoping to “dismantle the stigma” attracted to the brutal practice of baby killing. The Abortion is Normal exhibition was described as “an emergency art show”, designed to provoke a “resurgence of energy and enthusiasm” about the topic of abortion. Jasmine Wahi, Co-curator of the event told Bloomberg, the show is important because it continues the fight to ensure women are permitted to freely end the lives of their unborn children. “The reason this show is important, aside from, I guess, the obvious,…

It was only a few years ago, during Australia’s same-sex marriage debate, that a group of LGBTQ protesters stormed the stage at a Coalition for Marriage meeting in Melbourne. The protesters were chanting, “Crucify the Christians”, while waving a banner that read, “Burn churches, not queers.” Many same-sex marriage supporters saw the protest as a brave and courageous stand for love and equality. A month later the slogans, “Crucify ‘No’ Voters” and “Bash Bigots” was painted across the side of a Baptist church in Wheelers Hill. At the time, Lyle Shelton, former head of the Australian Christian Lobby and spokesman…

The young conservative student who led a protest against a Brisbane Drag Queen Story Hour for kids has died in a suspected suicide, The Daily Mail reports. Wilson Gavin’s death comes after he was ruthlessly slammed by news outlets and celebrities after footage of the “Drag queens are not for kids” protest was uploaded to social media yesterday. So the UQ Young Liberals decided to interrupt story time at a public library where a drag queen is reading to children only to be abused by homophobic slurs @LiberalAus. What are they doing to support the community? pic.twitter.com/dB7zXeVL7i — CORY (@corydunco)…

Amnesty International, whose stated mission is “to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and demand justice for those whose rights have been violated” has said they have three goals for 2020. First, they want to make same-sex relations legal in all countries. Second, they want to make abortion legal in all countries. And third, they want to abolish the death penalty in all countries. In other words, they want to impose their morality on the world. Given the fact that Amnesty International has rejected a Christian view of morality, their ideas of “right” and “wrong” are entirely arbitrary.…

Victorian Police have pleaded with organisers and civilians to reconsider attending a planned climate protest on Friday, January 10 as emergency services will be stretched on the day predicted to see dangerous fire conditions flare. The event, organised by Uni Students for Climate Justice, has been planned with the intent of calling on more funding for fire and emergency services, to call on an immediate transition away from fossil fuels, and to demand the sacking of Prime Minister Scott Morrison. In a post on Facebook, the organisers said: “We demand the government: Pay all firefighters and give them force full…

At the end of Isaiah, the prophet talks about the relationship between new life and the heat of judgement. Given the devastation we’re seeing from the immense fires since September in Australia, these verses have special relevance. This doesn’t justify arson, or the political opportunism seeking to advance, distract, manipulate and use the suffering of others to feed self-interest. The relationship between new life and the heat of judgement speaks to all of us. It’s here, and not with pyromania, or political opportunism that the Word found in the prophetic meets with the pyrophytic. Horticulturalists tell us that some Australian…

It was reported on social media on Monday that ABC Gippsland deleted a news story they shared in September about members of the local Nowa Nowa community protesting strategic asset protection burns in the region. During the protests, ABC Gippsland reported, “The protesters held up signs, positioned themselves in the area that was planned to burn.” One of the protesters allegedly commented to the ABC, saying she hoped she wouldn’t be fined, but she was more concerned about climate change. “I’m more worried about climate change, and the impact the burns are having. I’m worried for my grandchildren. “The mulch…

The recent bushfires across the eastern coast of Australia have been a national tragedy. They have claimed many lives, destroyed hundreds of houses, and have decimated literally hundreds and thousands of hectares of bushland. Everyone agrees that we are overwhelmingly indebted to the fire-fighters who have been tirelessly waging war against nature — they have done a tremendous job, in the face of a seemingly insurmountable task. Whilst the cataclysmic nature of the inferno is unanimous, there seems to be a chorus of Australians who have hastened to the conclusion that global warming is the cause, and CO2 emissions are…

I love Christmas carols. They are the soundtrack of the season. As great as carols are, it’s possible to make it through the whole month of December, hear these tunes, and yet not tune in to what the carols are really saying. On closer inspection, Christmas carols make some audacious claims. Consider just a few lines from Hark the Herald Angels Sing: Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see, Hail, the incarnate Deity. Pleased as man, with men to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel. What an absurd idea. God being limited to one place at a time? God learning how to walk? God……

If Christianity Today is to remain at the top of its game after their recent support for the full impeachment of Donald Trump, on what is already widely agreed to be manufactured political maneuvering by Leftists, they’ll now need to give voice to a broader theological critique. Australia’s Eternity News also seemingly plopped itself onto the bandwagon, defending what looked like its own giddy, veiled applause with the dismissal that “reporting the news is not the same as supporting the contents of it.” This is despite individuals calling the article “brave.” Readers of both Eternity News and Christianity Today would…

Several years ago, Australia spent more on Christmas per capita than any other nation. The Americans are beating us this year, but we are still right up there. The average household in Australia will spend $969 each this Christmas, based on all expenses including gifts, food and decorations. That is a grand total of 18.8 billion dollars. And what about the fact that ‘Carols by Candlelight’ celebrations are held all throughout December and attended by several million Australians? Many of these people would never go to a church at all throughout the year but are happy to pack the esky…

The belief that people cannot change their biological sex is “not worthy of respect in a democratic society”, an employment tribunal has ruled. Maya Forstater, a researcher at the Centre for Global Development, was fired from her job after she was accused of using “offensive and exclusionary” language on Twitter. Ms Forstater had taken to social media to question government proposals to reform the Gender Recognition Act to allow people to self-identify as the opposite sex. In October 2018, Ms Forstater tweeted: “What I am so surprised at is that smart people who I admire, who are absolutely pro-science in…

Reports have surfaced that the serial litigant, Gary Burns, is on the warpath against the Hebrew prophets. More particularly, he’s proposing to take the prophet, Ezekiel, to the Anti-Discrimination Board. Ezekiel is cited as condemning the sins of Sodom as haughty and ‘an abomination’ before God (Ezek.16:50). Strangely enough, Mr Burns has drawn inspiration from the history of the papacy itself. In 897, Pope Stephen VI (896-897) is supposed to have taken a dislike to the teaching and practices of his predecessor, Pope Formosus (891-896). As a consequence, Stephen had the remains of Formosus dug up, arrayed in full papal…

One Nation NSW leader Mark Latham has said Australians were lied to during the same-sex marriage debate after voters were repeatedly assured the legalisation of gay ‘marriage’ would not result in a loss of freedoms. Mr Latham made the comments in a post on Facebook today, following news that the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board had accepted a complaint from an LGBTQ activist accusing Israel Folau of “homosexuality vilification”. Campaigner Garry Burns took issue with the former rugby star’s “controversial” April Instagram post which warned hell awaits sinners who refuse to turn to Jesus for forgiveness, including homosexuals. Mr Latham described the NSW…

Many conservative Catholics are deeply concerned with a moment of unfettered pagan idolatry at their Youth Festival in Perth in recent days. I recently interviewed Mark Powell about his article regarding the use of indigenous protocols in Christian services and events and the danger of mixing Aboriginal religion with worship of the One True God. Little did we know such an explosive example of the worst kind I have ever seen would happen so soon following our discussion. This wasn’t at a government or secular event where ignorant obeisance to political correctness can be expected and maybe even suffered in silence…
