Government departments wasting $6-million of your tax dollars on fine dining and entertainment


Government departments have wasted more than $6-million tax dollars on lavish lunches, fine dining and entertainment in just 12-months, 9News revealed. Figures detailed in answers to Senate Estimates enquiries showed the following:

  • $1.06-million was spent by The Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Studies
  • $853,000 by the Trade and Investment Commission
  • $805,787 by the Department of Environment and Energy
  • $707,665 by the Department of Communications and the Arts
  • $353,893 by the Department of Education
  • $113,000 by the Health Department
  • $34,700 by the Department of Infrastructure
