Thousands of students reportedly skipped school on Friday to protest against the Australian Government’s inaction on climate change. The rally came despite Prime Minister Scott Morrison urging students to stay in school.
“Kids should go to school,” Morrison said. “That’s what we’re committed to. We don’t support the idea of kids not going to school, to participate in things that can be dealt with outside of school.
“We do not support our schools being turned into parliaments. What we want is more learning in schools and less activism in schools,” he said.
Students rallied with signs that read, “F U @ SCOMO,” “Scum-Mo is a bitch. So Am I!”, “I AM A SCOMOPHOBIC,” and “I hate ScoMo more than I hate school.”

Children protesting inaction on global warming only stands as proof that these kids are desperate to stand for something. They’ve been told they have no inherent meaning and exist for no ultimate reason, but of course, they want to feel like their lives have a purpose. We all do!
This is where we’re failing our kids. If we don’t teach them to stand for what’s right and true, they’ll stand for anything. Is it any wonder the Greens want to lower the voting age to just 16?
Avi Yemini also attended the event where he interviewed a number of protesters.
“I’m a scientist and I know what I’m talking about,” one man said. “Things are changing… Whether it’s man-induced or not is not the issue. The issue is we have to change, and we have to get adaptable, and we have to look at renewables, we have to clean up our act.”
“If it’s not man-induced, how will renewables help?” Yemini replied.
