The future has arrived, and it’s kind of creepy. Google have demonstrated their digital assistant’s ability to mimic human interaction over the phone. The bot is so convincingly human that it was able to book a hair appointment and make a restaurant reservation without those on the other end of the line realizing they were actually speaking to a machine. On Monday, rugby player, Israel Folau shared a video on Twitter featuring a 10-minute excerpt of a sermon preached by the late David Wilkerson. A recent study out of the University of Lincoln has found the Mr Men and Little Miss book series to be sexist. The findings are based on 47 Mr Men and 34 Little Miss books published between 1971 and 2014. The study found that throughout the series male characters were given more words than female characters. While females were given an average of 54.5 words per story, males were given 61.5. So, if males talk more it’s sexism, but if females talk more it’s a gender stereotype. The Illinois Senate recently passed a bill that would require public schools to teach lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history. The bill, which passed with a 34-18 vote, requires “all elementary and high schools to teach a unit studying the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the history of this country and this State.” The bill also states that textbooks used in public schools must be inclusive and “non-discriminatory.” Democratic Sen. Peta Credlin has called The Crimes Legislation Amendment (Sexual Crimes against Children and Community Protection Measures) Bill 2017, “the most significant reform to the legal framework concerning child sex offenders in decades.” The Bill would introduce mandatory minimum penalties for child sex offenders and repeat offenders, extend their jail time, and make it less likely pedophiles would be granted parole.
