No one should want to separate church from state
Think of the worst and most cruel act imaginable. Take a minute if you have to… Now think of a situation in which that same act might be regarded as morally good. It’s not easy. Some things aren’t justifiable. Some things are evil regardless of context. But many hesitate to admit that. We don’t want to live our lives governed by laws and standards that we can’t define ourselves. The notion that God defines morality is often ridiculed. The proposed alternative for those “enlightened” enough to do away with Christianity is: If it feels good, do it. If it hurts…
A Nation Abandoned by God
“He did not know that the LORD had left him.” (Judges 16:20) This is perhaps one of the saddest verses in all of the Bible. Samson, the strongest man that ever lived, awoke to find himself surrounded by his enemies. But what was more troubling than the evil that was present, was the good that was absent. God had left Samson, and he did not realise it until it was too late. Today the results of the Same-Sex Marriage survey were released. More than 12.7 million people (79.5%) respond to the question, Should the law be changed to allow same-sex…
More than 100 Queensland candidates pledge support to child murder
Things are looking gloomy in the Sunshine State. Up to 148 Queensland election candidates have signed up to Fair Agenda’s pro-abortion candidate pledge. The independent group is pressuring candidates to vow, if elected, they will, “vote to remove abortion from the criminal code, and support laws to ensure all Queenslanders can safely and legally access full reproductive healthcare, without being harassed or intimidated.” The pledge has also gained backing from The Human Rights Law Centre, Women’s Legal Service Queensland, White Ribbon, and Queensland Council of Unions. Candidates who have signed up commit to supporting three reforms in particular: Treat abortion like other medical procedures,…
Myth: Jesus Never Said Anything About Homosexuality
Although Jesus does not specifically use the word “homosexuality,” it’s imperative to understand that the failure to use a term does not indicate a failure to teach on a topic.
The “largest gathering of its kind” cancelled due to poor ticket sales
Should we laugh? It’s hard not to. The 2018 Global Atheist Convention has been cancelled. The event, set to take place from 9-11 February 2018, in Melbourne Australia, was described by organisers as, “the largest gathering of its kind in the southern hemisphere.” However, a lack of interest has forced the organizers to pull the plug early. In a letter posted on Facebook, the Committee explains: Ticket sales were well below expectation and the numbers sold for previous Conventions and it was simply not financially viable for the event to proceed. Ironically, the event was titled, Reason to Hope. Given the fact that an atheistic…
When is it okay to kill this baby?
Last year, Ben Shapiro tweeted an image detailing the process of fetal development. Attached to the image was the question, “When is it okay to kill this baby?” Fetal Development Day 1: Fertilization: all human chromosomes are present; unique human life begins. Day 6: Embryo begins implantation in the uterus. Day 22: Heart begins to beat with the child’s own blood, often a different type than the mother’s. Week 3: By the end of third week the child’s backbone spinal column and nervous system are forming. The liver, kidneys and intestines begin to take shape. Week 4: By the end…
The argument for abortion is exactly the same as the argument for slavery
“It’s truly amazing how history repeats itself. The argument in favor of abortion is exactly the same as the argument in favor of slavery. ‘You’re on my land? Then I get to decide whether you’re a person or property.’ Then you have women who say, ‘It’s in my womb, I get to decide whether this is a child or not.’ Well it turns out in human history there is a long, inglorious chain of people who said, ‘I get to decide whether this is a person or not’ and it never ended with anything but mass death.” Ben Shapiro
Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought or anything else
No moral issue can be debated, in any meaningful sense, without reference to God. Take God out of the picture and all we are left with is the accidental product of time and chance acting on matter. Doug Wilson has argued that once we remove God from the debate, “then the difference between your thoughts and mine correspond to the difference between shaking up a bottle of Mountain Dew and a bottle of Dr Pepper.” You have no basis for arguing that your thoughts are nearer to the truth than anyone else’s thoughts. You fizz one way, they fizz another.…
My House, My Choice
“One often hears the rallying cry from pro-choice advocates: ‘my body, my choice.’ Certainly, they exercise a choice, but, it is not just ‘my body’. There are two (2) bodies, each genetically distinct, and each ‘foreign’ to the other. It should be recognized that the body of the early embryo is very active in its daily rituals of survival. Prior to about 14 days post-fertilization the embryo becomes composed of two layers, an upper or epi-layer, and a lower or hypo – layer. At 14 days a third layer appears wedged in between the upper and lower layers. At this…
It’s not a slippery slope, it’s a cliff and we’re free falling
Somebody once said, “If there is no God, everything is permissible.” Remove the moral authority that exists outside of ourselves and things like right and wrong become merely a matter of personal preference. Our culture is riddled with it. Take Cosmopolitan, for instance, and their recent attempt to push incest and normalise sibling-sex: “There must be some natural explanation for these feelings, Brian remembers thinking. And according to them, there is. The half-siblings say they are prime examples of genetic sexual attraction (GSA). The term was coined by Barbara Gonyo in the 1980s after she experienced an attraction to the…
What comes after same-sex marriage?
What comes after same-sex marriage? You only have to look to the countries that have already redefined the institution to get an idea. Here are twelve examples. Example #1: John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons, has argued that the fight for “equality” is not over until churches abandon their faith. “We don’t want to behave like it’s all over [now that SSM is legal]… I still feel we’ll only have proper equal marriage when you can bloody well get married in a church if you want to do so, without having to fight for the equality that should…
The Meaning of “Day” in Genesis: Figurative or Literal?
How do we understand the story of creation told in Genesis 1:1-2:3? Interpreters have basically fallen into one of two camps. Either the six days of creation represent six literal 24 hour days, or each “day” refers only to an age, an epoch, an unspecified period of time. So, which interpretation should we prefer? When it comes to interpreting the Bible, the best place to look is the Bible. And likewise, when it comes to understanding a particular author, the best place to look is that same author. So, what did Moses mean by the mention of “day” in Genesis…
Redefining marriage for 0.2% of the population
In Australia, marriage is currently defined as “the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.” Proponents of Same-Sex Marriage want this definition changed, so that marriage will no longer be exclusively limited to “the union of a man and a woman.” The redefining of marriage will allow for couples of the same gender to marry each other. Given the attention this subject has been granted of late, you’d be forgiven for thinking that same-sex couples made up a large percentage of the population. But in reality, that’s just not…
