Pastor John MacArthur appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Tuesday, where he briefly explained why Grace Community Church believes they should reopen, despite California’s current restrictions.
“First of all, and foremost, it’s the First Amendment right,” MacArthur said. “This is the United States of America and the government can’t intrude on worship. We stand on that Amendment.
“The second thing that makes this so sensible is, in the state of California there are 40-million people – 8,500 of them have died with COVID. That’s 0.002%. So, in California you have a 99.99% chance to survive COVID. So, why would you shut down the entire state?”
The elders at Grace Community Church issued a statement on Friday, accusing civic leaders of exceeding their “legitimate jurisdiction” by ordering churches, along with other public places, to limit or suspend all meetings indefinitely.
In the statement, the leaders said they would not bow to intrusive restrictions, saying the church does not need the state’s permission to serve and worship the Lord as He has commanded them.
