In a 2016 Global Times hit piece on Australian swimmer Horton Mack, China’s ruling Communist Party echoed anti-Western sentiments straight out of the Tokyo Rose, and Hanoi Hannah, playbook, stating, 1. “We think Australia should feel embarrassed with Horton’s remarks. Otherwise, we would be surprised by some Australians’ sense of collective self-esteem.” 2. “It’s not a big deal to us. In many serious essays written by Westerners, Australia is mentioned as a country at the fringes of civilization. Police officers who “thought checked” a man accused of posting “transphobic” tweets acted unlawfully, the UK High Court has ruled. In January last year, Humberside Police tracked Harry Miller, of Lincolnshire, to his place of work after acquiring several posts suggesting ‘transgender women are not real women.’ Police reportedly told Miller, a former police officer himself, that an anonymous person had reported him for ‘hate speech’, saying his workplace would not be a “safe place” for transgender people. Despite being told that he had committed no crime, the officers told Miller, “I need to check your thinking.” After being subjected…

The late, great, Roger Scruton once articulated that one of the most successful lies of the 20th century is the idea that the ‘far-left’ is nothing like the ‘far-right.’ Scruton noted that: The success of Communist propaganda could be found in how it has persuaded so many people that fascism and communism are polar opposites and that there is a single scale of political ideology stretching from ‘far-left’ to ‘far-right’. Thus while communism is on the ‘far-left’, it is one stage along the road one must go in order not to be contaminated by fascism. However: Communism, like fascism, involved…
