A council in Victoria have voted to remove the Australian flag from their iconic town clock tower and replace it with a gay pride rainbow flag.
According to 3AW, Macedone Shire Council voted to change the flag on Woodend clock tower next month as part of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia.
The council is also reportedly set to replace the Torres Strait Islander flag with the symbol of LGBTQ+ pride at council offices in Gisbourne and Kyneton.
3AW’s Tom Elliot called the move a terrible decision, saying “You don’t take down the flag that unites all Australians to put up one that is politically divisive.
“The reason we have the Australian flag above all council buildings is to remind us all that we are united. We are all Australian.”
