Seventy-nine-year-old acting royalty Richard Dreyfuss is still defying those demanding he apologise for telling Hollywoke that its DEI agenda makes him want to puke.

He’s also still in hot water for asserting that the celebrity trend of “transing” kids was bad parenting.

Far from the “far-right”, the Oscar-winning actor with over 120 film credits to his name, broke with the system in 2024 after turning an advertised “light evening” of conversation into a full-blown protest.

Dreyfuss walked onto the stage in a dress, dancing to Taylor Swift’s Love Story.

During the Cabot Theatre Q&A, Dreyfuss doubled down on his civics activism, telling the audience,

“They took civics out of the schools 50 years ago without telling anybody. Which means we have no knowledge of who the hell we are.

“If we don’t get it back soon, we’re all going to die.

“Make sure your kids are not the last generation of Americans. You know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Reports from attendees viewed Dreyfuss’ comments as deranged.

People said they walked out because he questioned women having power, criticised the “me too” movement, transgender youth and LGBTQism.

Despite the venue issuing a verbose apology, 2 years on, Dreyfuss remains unfazed.

A big critic of Donald Trump – he has called the president an idiot, among other things – the actor best known for Jaws and Close Encounters, is not a fan of Hollywood’s new inclusion standards.

Discussing the DEI hire shift with Firing Line in 2023, Dreyfuss said, “They make me vomit.”

“This is an art form. It’s also a form of commerce, and it makes money.

“No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.

“What are we risking? Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings?

“You can’t legislate that,” Dreyfuss argued.

“You have to let life be life. I don’t think that there’s a minority or a majority in the country that has to be catered to like that.

“Laurence Oliver was the last white actor to play Othello, and he did it in 1965, in blackface.

“And he played a black man brilliantly.

“Am I being told that I will never have a chance to play a black man?

“Is someone else being told that if they’re not Jewish, they shouldn’t play the Merchant of Venice?

“Are we crazy?! Do we not know that art is art?

“This,” he said, “is so patronising.”

“It’s thoughtless and treats people like children. It says that we’re so fragile that we can’t have our feelings hurt.

“I truly believe you can make a great film, or a great painting, or a great opera out of the truth first.”

Try that first, he added, then if “you can’t do it, make up some nonsense.”

“But don’t tell me you can’t do that, that history isn’t that interesting.”

Modern films are “mostly crap,” Dreyfuss concluded.

“We’re going through this strange need to not create, but create sequels. Sequels are death!”

For example, the Jaws sequels “never came close to the brilliance of the first Jaws.”

“It’s one thing to be around a generation of people who went for it, who risked it, who said, ‘Let’s go for it.’

“And they made great films.”

Talking about civics, Dreyfuss said what’s lacking today is the “honour of dissent.”

Additionally, we’ve lost the idea of seeking the truth in history, “and you didn’t fool around about it.

“You told the truth, period.”

Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has been slammed online by former supporters after describing the social media platform X as a “very dangerous place” while addressing backlash over his party’s election candidates.

Farage’s remarks came in response to criticism directed at Reform UK for selecting foreign nationals to stand in British elections. Defending the party’s position, he pointed to what he described as abusive commentary online directed at minority candidates.

“The online abuse on X that our minority candidates are receiving is utterly appalling in every way,” Farage said.

“If it was happening to any other candidates from more established parties… you would all be in total uproar. I’ve not heard a single person comment on it. It really, really is bad, and X is now becoming a very unpleasant and very dangerous place.”

British journalist and broadcaster Dan Wootton slammed Farage for his remarks, saying in a post on X: “This has got to be the moment when anyone sane realises Nigel Farage has changed and is now the containment candidate. To suggest X is ‘dangerous’ because free speech is allowed is f***ing nuts. What’s dangerous is censorship of social media.”

Ben Habib, leader of Advance UK, said: “The whole point about free speech is the right to insult. The second you insist social norms are observed, free speech dies. Nigel Farage does not understand this. Neither does he understand that without X, there would be no Reform UK or British right wing. We would have been cancelled. Keep insulting!”

“Bless him,” said commentator Calvin Robinson. “Nigel Farage begging the mainstream media to have his back in calling online people racist. This is so sad. How far he has fallen. Not just joining legacy media in being a Leftist but leading them in calling X a ‘very dangerous place.’”

Reform supporters hit back at the critics, saying Farage never called for censorship or the regulation of X, but was merely highlighting the fact that if members of other parties were “racially targeted”, there would be nationwide outrage.

Farage’s comments also prompted a response from Rupert Lowe’s party, Restore Britain. In a post on X, the party rejected Farage’s claims, arguing that the criticism stemmed from Reform UK’s candidate selections.

“Farage is complaining about X because he is receiving criticism for standing Bangladeshi nationals as candidates in British elections,” the party stated. “There is an answer. Don’t stand Bangladeshi nationals as candidates in British elections.”

Restore Britain criticised Reform UK’s selection of candidate Addy Mo Asaduzzaman, stating that such decisions undermine efforts to reverse migration trends in the UK.

Lowe further commented that allowing foreign nationals to stand in British elections is “an insult to the British people,” and said his party would seek to ban non-citizens from both standing and voting.

Lowe went on to say: “Farage can’t hide behind pathetic accusations of racism to defend his choice to stand a Bangladeshi migrant in PORTSMOUTH.

He continued, “I’m sure Addy Asaduzzaman is a great bloke, and I wish him well in his election. If that election is in Bangladesh.

“British elections for British people,” Lowe said.

Elon Musk has commented on Australia’s declining birth rate, warning that “Australians are becoming an endangered species” in response to a post on X discussing the country’s latest fertility figures.

The remarks follow reports that Australia’s total fertility rate has fallen to approximately 1.48 in 2025, marking the second consecutive record low since national records began in 1924. Projections cited suggest the rate could decline further to around 1.42 in the coming years.

Demographers generally consider a fertility rate of 2.1 births per woman to be the “replacement level” required for a population to sustain itself without replacing itself through immigration. Australia’s current rate remains well below that threshold, which is part of a broader trend we’re witnessing across many Western nations.

While major political parties have employed mass immigration as a way to offset slowing population growth by cloaking the issue, critics have long argued that such reckless policies risk exacerbating the problem further. Today, with more than 3,400 migrants added every 24 hours, many contend that increased migration clearly places additional pressure on housing supply and infrastructure, contributing to rising property prices and increased demand, which in turn drives up the overall cost of living.

For many Australians, the prospect of starting a family is increasingly seen as financially challenging. Rising housing costs and broader cost-of-living pressures have contributed to a shift away from the traditional single-income household, with dual incomes now common in order to meet basic expenses.

Economists and social researchers note that such pressures can lead couples to delay having children until they feel more financially secure, a trend reflected in the rising average age of first-time parents. Housing affordability, in particular, has been identified as a key factor influencing family planning decisions.

Of course, a larger workforce means a broader tax base, which gives governments little incentive to reverse these trends. Instead, the response often takes the form of expanded public funding for childcare and education—effectively saying, “You have the children, and we’ll raise them.” Yet such measures always come at a cost. Governments do not generate wealth; they redistribute it. And that redistribution ultimately relies on taxpayers, compounding the underlying pressures through higher public spending and higher taxes.

As such, the tax system stifles family growth. The heavy burden of taxes discourages extra effort, longer hours, or the pursuit of higher earnings. One of the biggest penalties the taxpayer faces is a fine they are slapped with every few months, just for earning income. The government takes half of what they make in taxes, fees, and rates, and the more they earn, the more they owe. And rarely, if ever, do they receive back in services what they pay out in taxes.

Australians now need to work 107 days a year just to cover their tax bills. On average, over 45% of Australians’ income goes to taxes at the federal, state, and local levels—that’s more than two days of every five-day work week spent labouring for government revenue.

What we need is a seriously low cap on how much money a government can legally take from the public before being forced to concede they’re simply not able to do the job they’ve been tasked with. Excessive taxation exists to fund the campaign promises and fix the mistakes of inept and incompetent politicians, their bloated governments, and bureaucrat mates.

And bloated they are! In the United States, 6.68% of the population is government employees. In the United Kingdom, that figure is 8.75%. In Australia, a whopping 9.50% of the population is employed by the government, and funded by the taxpayer.

In other words, one in five workers is a government-employed, “public servant.”

“Australia had 2,517,900 public sector employees in June, with 365,400 of those in the federal government, 1,939,100 in state government and 213,500 in local councils, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). That equates to more than 17 per cent of the total working population, which was 14,402,500 in the same month.”

As such, the burden of electing an already bloated and ineffective government invariably falls on the hardworking populace, seldom on the incompetent politicians themselves.

Thomas Sowell aptly said, “It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.” It’s a system that’s simply not sustainable, not without inflicting irreparable damage on the average Australian.

In the end, it’s clear that the current system is not just a financial burden, but a barrier to personal growth, family building, and generational prosperity. We shouldn’t be surprised that many Australians are now left wondering whether building a family is even a possibility.

Unless these underlying pressures are seriously addressed, it is difficult to see how the decline in birth rates will stabilise, let alone reverse. Sadly, it seems Musk is correct. Australians are becoming an endangered species, indeed.

There’s been a surge of online discussion following the release of Capcom’s sci-fi action-adventure game Pragmata, with players asking if it was intentionally created to help shift attitudes towards family and parenthood.

The new game, which was released across major platforms this month, has gained considerable attention, not just for its gameplay but for its emotional storyline. Set on a lunar research station overrun by rogue artificial intelligence, the game follows Hugh Williams, a space worker who survives a catastrophic event and forms a father-like bond with Diana, a child-like android.

Since its release, much of the conversation online has centred on the evolving relationship between its two protagonists. What begins as a practical partnership developed through the story into a protective, mentor-like dynamic, with players tasked not only with survival, but with guiding, guarding, and caring for Diana as they attempt to return to Earth.

Across social media, players have dubbed the experience “Space Dad Simulator,” sharing clips of heartfelt in-game moments, and describing an unexpected sense of protective “dad instincts.”

Pragmata’s emotional narrative has been viewed in light of demographic trends in Japan. The country recorded approximately 705,809 births in 2025, marking the lowest level since records began in 1899 and continuing a decade-long decline in annual births. The total fertility rate remains around 1.1–1.2, despite ongoing government measures aimed at encouraging family formation.

Games like Pragmata are suggested to operate as a social nudge, designed to rekindle positive attitudes towards parenting among younger generations. However, there’s no evidence linking the game to any official policy initiative.

In fact, Pragmata’s storyline isn’t especially novel. Game developers have long drawn on the male protective instinct as a narrative driver.

Titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where Geralt of Rivia becomes a surrogate father to Ciri, or The Last of Us, which centres on Joel Miller protecting Ellie in a post-apocalyptic world, follow a similar relational arc.

Other examples, from BioShock Infinite to God of War, likewise build their emotional stories on protective, often paternal bonds.

It’s long been recognised that entertainment often shapes cultural attitudes. Whether or not influencing birth rates was the intention behind Pragmata, its reception highlights just how much storytelling can stir up instincts and values in its audience. At the very least, we can hope that positive portrayals of fatherhood and parenthood might leave a positive impression on players.

What is clear, however, is that if the narrative of the game proves capable of producing tangible real-world effects, games will be increasingly seen as a powerful frontier for shaping the outlook of younger generations.

For some, that raises the prospect of gaming becoming not just entertainment, but a strategic propaganda medium that could be used, for better or worse, to influence beliefs, values, and behaviour on a large scale among the youth and young adults.

The instinct of self-preservation is natural. It’s shared by man and beast alike. We feel it not only when our own bodies are at risk, but when anything we love is threatened—our families, our communities, our nation, and even our deepest convictions. We are, by nature, protective of what we hold dear, and rightly so. We want to preserve and advance those things that promote life and give it meaning. And so we remain on guard against anything that threatens those things.

Yet too often that guard is fixed in only one direction. We’re awake and alert to threats from without, such as the foreign enemy, the outsider, the obvious international adversaries. We prepare ourselves for what might come against us from the outside. But in doing so, we can overlook another danger altogether. One that is more subtle, nearer, and therefore, potentially more damaging.

The New Testament points to this sort of threat repeatedly. As the early church was being established, the Apostles repeatedly warned not only of persecution from outside, but from corruption from within. In fact, their emphasis falls more heavily on the latter. They speak of false Christs (Matt. 24:24), false apostles (2 Cor. 11:13), false prophets (1 Jn. 4:1), false gospels (Gal. 1:7-8), and false brothers (Gal. 2:4). Counterfeits that resemble the real thing closely enough to deceive even the best of us. These sorts were considered especially dangerous, not because they opposed the church openly, but because they operated under the guise of belonging to it.

This is often how deception works. It doesn’t present itself in a form we would immediately recognise and instinctively reject. It comes clothed in familiarity. As the Apostle Paul warns, it can even appear “as an angel of light.” It mimics what is good, borrows its language, adopts its form, and appears to advance its cause. But in doing so, it slips past all of our defences.

Such a threat emerges from within the community itself, or at least, it appears to. In truth, it doesn’t belong, but it presents itself as though it does through its outward performance. In the early church, false teachers would attach the names of apostles or those close to Christ to their heretical writings in order to gain credibility. They were, in effect, borrowing authority to lend weight to their erroneous and distorted teachings. The coating looked genuine, but the substance beneath was not. And that’s what made this kind of threat all the more dangerous.

This is the nature of the counterfeit. It’s not always easily recognised. It deceives not only the naive, but at times, even the discerning. Consider the fall of Judas Iscariot. When Jesus said that one of the twelve would betray him, the disciples didn’t immediately turn their gaze on Judas. Instead, they questioned themselves, saying, “Is it I, Lord?” The counterfeit disciple had blended in so well that he was indistinguishable from the genuine and true. His outward, public performance gave no obvious signal of what was really lying beneath. Even within the Apostle Paul’s wider circle, there were those who proved false in the end, such as men like Demas, who Paul said deserted him, being “in love with this present world” (2 Tim. 4:10).

But the harm of the counterfeit isn’t limited to deception alone. It also has the power to discredit. When illegitimate expressions operate under the name of a church, a movement, a political party, or an institution, they risk bringing the whole into disrepute. This is why organisations are often quick to distance themselves from bad actors caught up in scandals. A public repudiation serves to make clear that such actions are not representative and do not reflect the values or commitments of the body as a whole. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

Ultimately, it is not enough to be vigilant against threats from without; we must also be discerning about what arises within. The instinct to defend what we love is good, but if it is directed only outward, it leaves us exposed at the very point we are least prepared to guard.

Whatever the object—our loved ones, a movement, a community, a church, or even a political party—we must reckon with the danger of the counterfeit. Such threats do not always announce themselves; they emerge quietly, from within, clothed in the appearance of belonging. Like wolves in sheep’s clothing, they are able to do their damage precisely because our attention is only ever fixed elsewhere.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a resolution designating June as “Nuclear Family Month” in the state.

The resolution was signed on April 9, two days after it advanced through the Republican-controlled state legislature. June is also nationally recognised as Pride Month, observed since 1999.

The measure defines a nuclear family as “one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children,” and describes this structure as “God’s design for familial structure” and “God’s perfect design for humanity.”

The resolution states that the nuclear family “has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world” and expresses concern about “fatherless families.” It cites claims that children raised without fathers or in non-intact households are more likely to experience poverty, substance abuse, mental health and behavioural issues, and incarceration.

It also states that “the nuclear family is under attack” in Tennessee and the United States.

The proposal was originally introduced in February 2025 and was signed into effect by Governor Lee on April 9.

The move has been widely applauded amid a long-term decline in marriage across the Western world. Marriage rates have fallen significantly, the average age at first marriage has risen, and singlehood has become more common. In the United States, marriage rates have dropped by roughly 60 per cent over the past 50 years, while more than 40 per cent of children are now born to unmarried mothers.

At the same time, birth rates across the West continue to fall. Most Western nations are now well below the 2.1 births-per-woman replacement level. Australia’s fertility rate has declined to a record low of around 1.5, with similar patterns evident in the United States and across Europe.

If Western nations are to survive, these trends need to be reversed—quickly! Correcting course will demand a real, society-wide effort to value marriage, child-rearing, and family life. It will require deliberate policy action to support family formation and stability, and in particular, easing the financial pressures that make raising children feel out of reach for many married couples.

This includes addressing cost-of-living pressures, housing affordability, and workplace structures that make starting a family—while maintaining an income—difficult, if not impossible. Public policy and cultural trends alike play a role in shaping whether people feel secure enough to marry and have children.

Our political leaders, in particular, have a responsibility to foster conditions in which families can thrive, and to affirm the importance of the family as a foundational unit of stable, high-functioning societies. So, hats off to Governor Bill Lee, and may many follow suit.

Australian retailer BIG W appears to have removed an LGBTQ-themed ANZAC poppy product from its website following online backlash.

The item, listed by a third-party seller, was described as an “ANZAC Pride Inclusion and Respect Poppy” lapel pin. The design featured a traditional red poppy combined with a rainbow-coloured petal, and was described on the website as a symbol of “inclusivity and diversity.”

However, the supermarket giant faced a wave of criticism online from those who argued that the symbol of remembrance for fallen soldiers was being hijacked to convey ideological messaging related to homosexuality and transgenderism.

Former member of the Australian Parliament, Craig Kelly, flagged the product, vowing never to shop at Big W again.

“I thought it had to be AI,” he said in a post on X. “That’s it, I’m done with BIG W. They won’t ever get another cent of my money.”

Kelly went on to say that Anzac Day is “not a promotion platform for the rainbow crowd to push their agenda.”

Kelly applauded the product’s removal, calling it a “perfect example of how social media backlash can actually force change.”

The red poppy is recognised as a symbol of remembrance for soldiers who died in war, particularly those of World War I. Its association with remembrance is said to come from the appearance of poppies on battlefields in regions such as Flanders.

The symbolism was popularised by the 1915 poem In Flanders Fields, written by Canadian physician John McCrae. The poem reads:

Following the war, the poppy was adopted as a symbol of remembrance, and its symbolism spread throughout Commonwealth countries. In Australia, poppies are usually worn in the lead-up to Remembrance Day on November 11.

The family is the oldest and most resilient institution in human history. For millennia, it has served as the primary unit of social organisation. As such, the family unit has been described as the nursery of civilisation, the transmitter of culture, the first school, the first economy, and the first community of faith and formation.

Yet today, this fundamental institution faces a sustained and largely unacknowledged assault. Not only through open hostility, but also through a convergence of economic pressures, fiscal structures, and cultural narratives that, taken together, render traditional family life increasingly difficult to sustain.

In previous generations, a single income, earned by a father working as a tradesman, labourer, or professional, was often sufficient to support a household, purchase a modest home, and enable a mother to devote herself to raising children and managing the domestic sphere.

Today, that dream has become, for many, economically unviable. Housing costs have surged, driven in part by regulatory constraints, demand pressures, and immigration. Taxation has increased severely. The general cost of living, including food, utilities, education, and healthcare, swallows income at a rate that leaves little room for a non-earning spouse.

The result isn’t just a shift in lifestyle preference, but a form of compulsion. Dual incomes are no longer a choice for many families, but a necessity. Women, in large numbers, are not simply entering the workforce as an expression of “liberated choice”; they are doing so because the world today leaves them little alternative.

Obviously, a household with two working adults generates significantly more tax revenue than one sustained by a single income. By contrast, the labour of a mother in the home, though foundational to the raising of children, the stability of society, and the future of a nation, remains economically invisible in formal terms. It is not taxed, but neither is it meaningfully recognised or supported. The incentive structure thus leans heavily against the single-income household.

As both parents are drawn into full-time work, the functions once carried out within the family are displaced. Children are placed into daycare and educational institutions at earlier ages and for longer durations. Care, formation, and supervision, once the domain of parents, are increasingly outsourced. Families, in effect, fund through taxation and fees the very systems that replace their own role. A cycle emerges in which economic pressure necessitates external care, and external care reinforces the economic conditions that made it necessary in the first place.

Alongside these pressures runs a powerful cultural current. Modern ideological frameworks, particularly those influenced by feminism, have often recast domestic life, especially full-time motherhood, as limiting or regressive. While opportunities for women have expanded, the accompanying narrative has frequently diminished the perceived value of homemaking and child-rearing. Career achievement is elevated as the primary measure of feminine fulfilment, while the work of the home is treated as secondary or even outdated and unnecessary.

The consequence is not the elimination of choice, but its narrowing in practice. The domestic path remains available in theory, yet is often discouraged in culture and rendered difficult by economics. Women who prioritise the home may find themselves moving against both financial pressures and social expectations. What is presented as freedom can, in effect, become a one-track norm from which any deviation is considered the exception.

It goes without saying that these cultural shifts carry profound consequences for the internal life of the family. When both parents are committed to demanding work schedules, time together is significantly reduced, and family life is disrupted. Husbands and wives can become “co-managers” of what amounts to little more than a Bed and Breakfast rather than partners in a deeply integrated life. Fatigue and fragmentation strain relationships. Children, meanwhile, spend much of their formative years under institutional supervision or immersed in peer and digital environments, rather than shaped primarily by their parents.

Over time, this system weakens the bonds that give the family its coherence and strength. The parent-child relationship, once marked by presence, discipline, and authority, becomes attenuated. The household shifts from being the centre of life to a point of coordination between various external commitments.

From these changes inevitably emerges a broader social and cultural transformation. Society itself comes to be conceived less as a network of families and more as a collection of atomised individuals. The family, which once performed a wide range of essential functions—education, care, moral formation, spiritual discipline, economic cooperation, and welfare—finds those roles increasingly externalised and commodified.

An atomised society follows naturally from this arrangement. Individuals, detached from strong familial structures, are more likely to experience isolation, instability, and a diminished sense of belonging. Without the formative influence of a cohesive family, identity becomes more fragile, and social bonds more transient. True to form, the state and the market expand to fill the void—providing services, structures, and even meaning where the family once did so organically.

The economic implications are equally significant. Every function the family once fulfilled internally, including childcare, elder care, meal preparation, and education, becomes a service to be purchased. This benefits both governments through taxation and markets through consumption. By contrast, a strong family performs these functions within a framework of love, duty, and mutual obligation, and that, without monetisation, and often without external dependence.

All of this is the cumulative outcome of policies, incentives, and cultural developments that, while may be pursued for a range of reasons, converge in their damning effects. The result is visible in declining birth rates, delayed family formation, increased family instability, and a weakening of intergenerational continuity.

This is a civilisational question for every Western nation. Societies are not ultimately built by isolated individuals, but by families, by mothers and fathers who invest their time, energy, and identity into the raising of the next generation. When that work is devalued, rendered invisible, or made economically unsustainable, the consequences extend far beyond the household.

What is at stake is not merely a preference for one lifestyle over another, but the preservation of the very institution that undergirds social stability, continuity, and human flourishing. A society that loses the family does not simply change. It fragments, reducing itself to a collection of disconnected individuals, no longer rooted in the enduring bonds that make civilisation possible.

If the economic, cultural, and institutional forces of modern life continue to erode the family in this way, what, if anything, will remain to hold society together when its most fundamental unit has been quietly dismantled?

The United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) shut down its renowned World Fact Book (WFB) in February, without explanation.

A pundit’s best guess at reasons for the cut starts with DOGE’s sifting of the sheep from goats inhabiting the bureaucratic swamp.

As asserted by the Associated Press, the 64-year-old information platform was likely ditched because of cuts to staffing “early in Trump’s second term.”

This “forced the agency to do more with less.”

Asked by the AP to give an explanation, the news organisation said the CIA never called them back.

Another reason for the CIA ditching its widely used WFB could be misuse both within and from without the organisation.

Put simply, critics are celebrating Trump DOGEing what they would argue is a propaganda machine.

For some, Factbook’s closure is an end to the CIA presenting itself as a single source of truth on global matters about nations, governments, demographics, wars, displacement, and the disadvantaged.

For the CIA, though, it’s about getting the agency back to its core mission.

They said as much in January when Director John Ratcliffe issued statements declaring that the CIA was “not where it’s supposed to be.”

Ratcliffe wants a leaner, meaner version. That means trimming add-ons like Factbook, which puts a drain on resources.

In a press release on February 9, Ratcliffe stated that resources and assets were being streamlined.

This timeline links up with the closure of Factbook at the time.

Factbook didn’t appear to factor into the list of priorities in Ratcliffe’s new framework for the agency.

Overall changes, he said, are about optimisation in response to “rapidly evolving mission demands,” which require a “radical shift towards a culture of speed, agility, and innovation.”

“By leveraging the best technological solutions available today, the CIA will be better equipped to meet the intelligence challenges of tomorrow.”

Not so much a sales pitch as a declaration about the CIA’s complete realignment with reality.

This means the Feb 9 press release added, only focusing on “essential capabilities, breakthrough technology prototypes and modernising [the agency’s] core systems to meet urgent mission needs.”

Notably, on February 20, Ratcliffe ordered the CIA to ditch all “biased intelligence products to reinforce CIA analytic objectivity.”

These included retractions of bizarre Obama and Biden-era CIA content, such as:

1. “Women Advancing White Racially and Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremist Radicalisation and Recruitment.”

2. “Middle East-North Africa: LGBT Activists Under Pressure”

3. “Worldwide: Pandemic-Related Contraceptive Shortfalls Threaten Economic Development.”

Condemning the misuse of the CIA, Ratcliffe stated,

“The intelligence products we released to the American people today — produced before my tenure as DCIA — fall short of the high standards of impartiality that CIA must uphold and do not reflect the expertise for which our analysts are renowned.”

“There is,” he added, “absolutely no room for bias in our work, and when we identify instances where analytic rigour has been compromised, we have a responsibility to correct the record.”

The Trump CIA boss finished by explaining that,

“These actions underscored a commitment to transparency, accountability, and objective intelligence analysis.”

This is of special significance when measured alongside laws preventing the CIA from operating within the United States.

The era of the CIA’s apparent misuse by Democrat administration Marxists to push a clearly Woke ideological agenda has been shut down.

Farewelling the Factbook, the CIA briefly paid tribute to its usefulness at a time when Analog still ruled the airwaves, the Cold War was raging, and AI was the thing in science fiction.

Though the resource is gone, the CIA told those who once used it to explore the world both in person and virtually, adding the words, “stay curious.”

The story of Abraham and Isaac stands as one of the most iconic accounts in the Bible. It has been depicted in countless works of art over the centuries: Abraham, standing over a wooden altar, his young son Isaac bound on top, Abraham’s hand raised, gripping a knife, just as an angel intervenes at the last second.

It is a dramatic account, rich with symbolism and meaning, yet it’s also one of the most misunderstood stories in the Bible. As a result, perhaps no other account in the entire Old Testament has been so viciously criticised. Not merely because it relays a disturbing event, but because the actions taken by Abraham—actions that would seemingly be impossible for you and I, are carried out without objection or protest, and in accordance with the command of our loving and gracious God.

Even as Christians, we may wrestle with this narrative, imagining ourselves in Abraham’s place. What would we do if God asked us to prove our love and loyalty by making such an unimaginable sacrifice? This shocking account naturally attracts critics.

Some, like Richard Dawkins, called it an example of child abuse and blind obedience to authority, dismissing it as a “disgraceful story.” Christopher Hitchens, among other professional God-haters, has also echoed similar sentiments. Condemning the account as a moral outrage, Hitchens said, “The religions that say you should admire infanticide as proof of the love of God have no claim at all to be preaching ethics, let alone morality.”

Ironically, even those who claim we live in a godless, amoral universe express moral outrage over this story. Yet, their critiques often resonate with a quiet discomfort many feel about God’s command in verse 2: “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and offer him as a burnt offering.”

Abraham’s striking response makes the whole account even harder to swallow. Unlike his intercession for Sodom in Genesis 18, where he pleaded with God multiple times to spare his nephew Lot from certain death, here Abraham silently obeys. He rises early, gathers supplies, and undertakes a three-day journey without protest.

Why such a different response between the prospect of his nephew’s death and the thought of his own son being slaughtered at his own hand?

The reason why Abraham raised no objections, rose early in the morning, undertook a three-day journey, and so readily complied without question is precisely because Abraham did not believe that this would result in Isaac’s end. And it was this very belief that God was here testing. This was a test, but not to see if Abraham loved God so much that he had no love left in his heart for his own son. This was a test, but not to demonstrate that Abraham believed Isaac would die. This was a test that proved Abraham believed that Isaac would live.

When Abraham tells his servants, “I and the boy will go over there and worship and then we will come back to you,” he reveals his confidence that Isaac will return with him. He believed God would fulfill His promises, even if it required raising Isaac from the dead (Heb. 11:17).

As they journeyed, Isaac noticed something missing. “We have fire and wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham replied, “God will provide for Himself the lamb.” And God did. Just as Abraham prepared to sacrifice Isaac, an angel intervened, and a ram was provided as a substitute.

This is not the last time a substitutionary sacrifice will be offered on Mount Moriah. In 1 Chronicles 21, King David’s sin brought God’s judgment upon Israel, resulting in 70,000 deaths. As the angel of the LORD prepared to destroy Jerusalem, God relented, declaring, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” David saw the angel with a drawn sword over Jerusalem like Abraham standing over Isaac, and, in fear, purchased Ornan the Jebusite’s threshing floor. There, he built an altar and offered sacrifices. The LORD accepted the offerings with fire from heaven and commanded the angel to sheath his sword. A substitute had been offered and accepted.

Centuries later, Solomon built the Temple on this same site, where countless sacrifices were made. Yet these offerings could never truly atone for the sins of the people. Hebrews 10:3-4 reminds us, “It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.”

But it was this insufficiency that remained a constant reminder in the minds of the Old Testament saints that something new was necessary, that God would provide for Himself a better substitute than a ram, bull, or goat. If the blood of an animal couldn’t take away sins, then the blood of a man was necessary. Not just any man, a man without spot or wrinkle or blemish – or sin.

God’s ultimate provision was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. This is why John the Baptist proclaimed upon seeing Him, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

Our Father in heaven sent His only son, His beloved son, to the land of Moriah, where He carried on his shoulders the wood upon which He would be sacrificed. Only there was no substitute for this Son of Abraham because He was the substitute, He was the Lamb that the Lord promised to provide.

The story of Abraham and Isaac is not about a cruel demand from a heartless God to a heartless father, because the request itself was made in light of the promises that were already given to Abraham. The story is about Abraham’s faith in God’s promise — that Isaac would, in fact, live, grow, marry, and father a multitude of people. Abraham believed that Isaac would live and that God would provide a lamb.

We are called to believe the same truth Abraham trusted in: death awaits us all. God has ordained the number of our heartbeats, each one bringing us closer to our final moment. Though death feels like something that happens only to others, it is a reality for every one of us.

Our only hope lies in this question: Do you, like Abraham, trust the grand promises of God for those who look to the Lamb? Do you approach death with the assurance that God has provided for Himself a Lamb? Do you believe, as Abraham did, that God has the power to raise the dead, offering life that never ends?

At the heart of our faith is this belief—that God has provided for Himself a Lamb. So, behold the Lamb, Jesus Christ, who was born to die and raised to reign forever.

Shane Warne’s 26-year-old son has said he believes COVID-19 vaccines were to blame for the early death of his father, who died suddenly in 2022.

Warne died on March 4, 2022, in Thailand at the age of 52. Authorities reported a suspected heart attack as the cause of death. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers in cricket history.

In a recent interview on the 2Worlds Collide podcast with Sam Bamford, Warne’s son, Jackson Warne, said he believes the COVID-19 vaccine “was involved” in his father’s death.

“I think [the COVID vaccine] was involved, and I don’t even think saying that is controversial anymore,” he said. He added that even if his father had underlying health issues, he believes the vaccine may have brought them “straight to the surface.”

Jackson Warne said his initial reaction after learning of his father’s death was to “blame the government” and “blame COVID and the vaccine.”

He also said that during the state memorial—funded by the Victorian Government and held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground—he considered publicly expressing those views but chose not to do so.

“At the end of the day, we’ll never ever know,” he said, while referencing the autopsy, which has been made publicly available.

Jackson Warne stated that his father had received multiple COVID-19 vaccine doses, which he said were required for work, and described him as healthy and in good spirits at the time.

“Dad was ok, and I think he might have got three or four [shots]—I know he didn’t want to get them,” he said. “He was forced to get them for work…like everybody else.”

He added that he tries not to dwell on the issue, saying that doing so can lead to anger.

Jackson Warne also spoke about the Shane Warne Legacy, an initiative focused on raising awareness about heart health, with the aim of preventing similar sudden deaths.

“What we’re trying to do now with the Shane Warne Legacy is spread as much awareness as possible about heart health. Our mission is that we don’t want people to receive the same phone call we got.

“I think a lot of people have now realised that there is nothing we can do for those who have been vaccinated. The only alternative is to become the healthiest version of ourselves so that, if something like this happens again, we are at least more awake—at least more aware.”

Former Senator, Gerard Rennick, responded to Jackson Warne’s remarks, stating in a post on X: “The government is to blame. They knew about it because I told them the vaccines were killing people, and they ignored me.

Rennick said, “The only way to hold these politicians to account for Covid is to vote the major parties out of government.”

Caldron Pool was among the few outlets that opposed COVID-era vaccine mandates, warning that too many unknowns remained to justify compelling an entire population to undergo medical treatment without the possibility of serious side effects, and arguing that the imposition of such measures fell outside the proper role of civil government.

A decade ago, Peter Hitchens warned that the atheist campaign to expel Christianity from Western public life would not produce a neutral, secular vacuum—but would instead open the door to something else entirely.

In an interview on Conversations, he observed:

“When they drive Christianity out of Europe, as they’re rapidly succeeding in doing, they will not create an atheist paradise. They will leave a space for Islam.”

His point was not that Islam advances by force of argument alone, but that civilisations cannot remain religiously empty. The attempt to force Christianity from public life—education, law, and government—does not produce neutrality. It produces a religious vacancy. And that vacancy, Hitchens warned, will inevitably be filled.

“Those people who now campaign for Christianity to be driven, more or less, out of public life… may be very unpleasantly surprised when, having succeeded in doing that, they simply cleared a space for Islam to take over.”

When Christianity is driven from the public square, it is not instantly replaced by another historic faith. Instead, the state expands to fill the void. It claims neutrality, but in practice it begins to function as a god: defining morality, adjudicating truth, shaping identity, and demanding allegiance. In predominantly Christian nations, this expansion is directed first and foremost against Christianity itself, because Christianity represents a rival source of ultimate authority.

Statism, then, is not the final destination. It is a clearing mechanism. It works to level the religious landscape—to privatise, marginalise, and relativise all competing faiths, but especially the one that once defined the civilisation. In doing so, it creates a managed, flattened public square in which no transcendent authority is allowed to stand above the state.

Yet this arrangement is inherently unstable. A society cannot live indefinitely on procedural neutrality or bureaucratic authority alone. The state can suppress and regulate religion, but it cannot replace the need for a coherent, lived faith. And so, over time, the space it has cleared becomes available for a more substantive religious system to take root.

Fast-forward to 2026, and this trajectory is becoming visible in the United Kingdom.

The British citizenship test now requires applicants to distinguish between Islamic festivals such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha—asking which festival marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Eid al-Fitr is the festival of breaking the fast, while Eid al-Adha is associated with the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage and the theme of sacrifice.

On the surface, it may simply appear to be civic literacy. But it also signals something deeper. The state, having distanced itself from its own Christian foundations, now takes on the role of mediator between competing religions, transmitting their basic forms as part of civic identity.

The issue is not merely that citizenship now includes knowledge of another religion’s festivals. It is that a civilisation once shaped by Christianity now finds itself instructing citizens in the internal practices of a different faith, not as outsiders looking in, but as participants in a shared public order.

Historically, Britain and the wider Western world were not constructed on the assumption of religious neutrality. Their legal and political imagination developed within a Christian moral framework. Law was understood to be grounded in a transcendent order, not created ex nihilo by the state. Authority was accountable to God, not self-authorising.

When that foundation is removed, the structure does not remain intact. And when Christianity ceases to function as the public confession of a people, it is not replaced by neutrality. It is first replaced by the sovereignty of the state—and then, in time, that state-made vacuum becomes fertile ground for another religion.

Statism clears the space. It does not keep it.

In such a setting, it is unsurprising that citizenship education begins to reflect the presence of a rising alternative. The state, having weakened its own foundations, now inadvertently prepares the ground for something else to take root in its place.

In truth, no nation is religiously neutral. Every civil order rests upon a theological foundation. Laws always reflect ultimate commitments. And as the confession of a society changes, so too does its moral and political architecture.

Britain today is therefore not merely rearranging the furniture of its civil life. It is passing through a transition—from a Christian order, through a statist one, toward Islam.

The real question is not whether citizens can distinguish Eid al-Fitr from Eid al-Adha, but what comes after the state has finished clearing the ground—and which faith will ultimately claim it.

Four British nationals were detained last week after allegedly crossing from Canada into the United States.

The men named Ali Mohammed Ali Abdullah, Hameed Mohammed Nagi, Ibrahim Ayyub Khan, and Mohammed Sultan Saleh were arrested in a remote northern part of Somerset County.

Court documents quoted online by Steve Robinson recall the men initially celebrating the achievement on a GoPro.

Robinson said they were then spotted by Maple sugar workers, who reported the group of Middle Eastern men because they were walking “in the wrong direction to be casual hikers.”

The report explained that this was on “a 96-mile, primarily unpaved private logging road in Maine, stretching from Millinocket west to the Quebec border.”

To add, “there’s nothing but trees to see for 95.9 of those miles and no cell service.”

Of note, those who noticed the group said there was also a vehicle involved.

Two ICE agents responded to the Maple workers’ tipoff, who later arrested the four “without incident.”

This is despite the group “attempting to conceal themselves in roadside vegetation,” and stating, when questioned, that they were hiking.

Each individual tried to tell the agents they didn’t know they were in the United States.

Those claims were contradicted by the GoPro evidence.

Further information taken from the men’s phones suggested that their destinations were Boston and New York.

The vehicle, Robinson said, was located without fuel, and carrying two people who “identified themselves as US citizens.”

Agents found a “loaded 9mm handgun,” and subsequently detained the pair as people smuggling suspects.

One of the two, the report added, eventually admitted to authorities that he and another man were there to pick up one of the Middle Eastern men, who they had dropped off in that area last month.

Adding to the concerns of law enforcement, one of the four was known to immigration and had apparently been deported from the United States in May last year.

Evidence points to the man arriving in Canada on a British passport three days before the attempt to re-enter the US.

The two allegedly related events are now before the courts, while investigators figure out the what, why and how.

Of particular interest is why the group of Middle Eastern men were crossing so clandestinely using British passports, and why a man who was booted out of the US last year appeared to be helping them.

Adding to Robinson’s report, Portland’s Press Herald said the two men in the vehicle (a Nissan) who were only 16 kilometres from the group, “were not named in the court documents.”

“It’s unclear whether the two U.S. citizens will face charges,” PH said, adding that “a federal prosecutor declined to answer questions about them Wednesday.”

The group maintains that “they had been hiking, arguing that they weren’t aware they were in the U.S.”

Press Herald backed Robinson’s coverage, stating that the facts did not support the claims.

Alongside the damning GoPro footage, agents, PH said, found footprints revealing that the group had crossed the border a few hundred feet from the St. Zacharie port of entry.

This was supported by GPS records and one of the men’s Google search history, which contained requests for information on how to get to Bangor, Maine.

We live in an age that loves results. The faster, the better. If it works, it’s assumed to be good; if it benefits us, it’s treated as justified. But whatever our culture affirms in this regard, Scripture does not. A sin that profits you today is still a sin tomorrow. God’s law is not suspended simply because disobedience appears to serve a “righteous” end.

Yet this way of thinking is nothing new. It is a temptation as old as humanity itself. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent didn’t deceive Eve by denying God outright. He reframed disobedience as an opportunity for betterment. In Genesis 3, Satan appeals to Eve not merely to rebel, but to calculate the end: You’ll be better off if you do this. Eat, and you’ll not surely die. Eat, and you’ll be like God, knowing good and evil. You want to be like God, don’t you?

The argument is pragmatic. The act is forbidden, yes—but consider the outcome. Consider the results. That is the essence of the lie: that a good result can sanctify a bad act.

Eve saw that the tree was good for food, a delight to the eye, and desirable to make one wise. The promised end overshadowed the commanded means. And in that moment, pragmatism—meaning, the end justifies the means— entered the human story.

And it’s never left.

The Bible shows this pattern repeating itself again and again—and then again.

In 1 Samuel 13, King Saul offers a sacrifice he has no authority to give because he fears losing his army. The outcome seems reasonable, but God rejects him for it. Later, in 1 Samuel 15, Saul spares the best of the Amalekite spoil under the pretext of offering it to God. It’s disobedience, but it’s cloaked in devotion. Samuel the prophet rebukes the king, saying, “To obey is better than sacrifice.” In other words, the end—the worship of God—did not justify the means: disobedience to God.

In Genesis 16, Abraham and Sarah attempt to “help” God fulfil His promise by having a child through Hagar, Sarah’s slave. The goal may have aligned with God’s end—a promised son—but the means were faithless. The result wasn’t blessing, but division and long-lasting conflict. In other words, the end—a promised son—did not justify the means: birthing that son through Hagar.

In 2 Samuel 6, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark of the Covenant after the oxen carrying it stumbled. His intention appears good, but God had already commanded how the Ark was to be handled. Uzzah’s act, though well-meaning, violated God’s commandment, and he was struck dead for his disobedience. His good intentions did not override God’s Law. In other words, the end—steadying the Ark—did not justify the means: touching what God had forbidden.

Even Jacob in Genesis 27 secures the blessing through deception. The end itself was in line with God’s promise—but the means were sinful. The consequence was years of exile and fractured relationships. God’s purposes stand, but Jacob suffered greatly for trying to obtain them through unlawful means.

The pattern of pragmatism is hard to miss. A favourable outcome doesn’t transform rebellion into righteousness. Success doesn’t baptise disobedience. If it breaks God’s law, it’s wrong—even if it works in your favour.

In fact, virtually every great atrocity has been carried out by men convinced that the end justifies the means. Evil rarely presents itself as naked evil. It presents itself as necessary, expedient, even virtuous. But wickedness does not become righteous just because it appears useful.

Christianity stands in stark contrast to the pragmatic mindset. It refuses to measure righteousness by results. It insists that obedience to God is the standard, regardless of the outcome. As such, the question is never merely, ‘Does it work?’ but ‘Is this faithful?’ We are commanded to obey. The results belong to God.

“We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29)—and not only men, but our own schemes, our own calculations, our own attempts to force providence toward what we think is best. We aren’t called to engineer outcomes, but to walk in obedience.

To follow Christ is to reject the Serpent’s logic. It is to trust that God’s commands are good, even when obedience seems costly. It is to believe that no true good can come from what God has called evil, and that no apparent loss suffered in obedience is ultimately a loss at all.

If you must break God’s law to obtain it, you were never meant to have it. It’s a form of providential theft. The fruit may look good. The outcome may seem desirable. But if we cannot obtain it without sinning, then it is not within our reach. If it must be sought, then it must be sought another way.

This is painfully real for many. We’ve seen Christians—who ought to have known better—compromise their credibility during COVID by adopting a pragmatic mindset: the end—health, safety, and slowing the spread—justified the means—lockdowns and vaccine mandates. They knew it was wrong. Ask them, and many will tell you they wouldn’t do the same again. And yet, at the time, they justified and endorsed it, appealing to necessity, safety, and the collective good. In their minds, the outcome justified the compromise.

Unfortunately, we’re seeing the same logic again today in the discussion about war and violence. Civilian deaths are brushed aside as “collateral damage,” defended on the grounds that the guilty were also struck down. But does the presence of the guilty somehow cleanse the killing of the innocent? Does wrongdoing cease to be wrongdoing because it’s strategically effective? Scripture never permits such reasoning. The deliberate taking of innocent life cannot be justified by appealing to a desirable outcome.

This is the serpent’s logic: You will be better off if you disobey.

But God doesn’t call us to calculate outcomes. We are to uphold righteousness. We’re not permitted to compromise what’s true and just in order to manufacture what we think is beneficial. Faithfulness is the measure, not success, not expediency, not results.

God doesn’t call His people to be pragmatists. That is the logic of the tempter. God calls His people to be holy. To be obedient. To be faithful. And that means refusing—always—to do evil that good may come (Rom. 3:8).

If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you’ve likely noticed a renewed and growing fascination with the possibility of extraterrestrial life. It’s difficult to miss, especially on X. Feeds are filled with videos of unexplained lights in the sky, reports of newly declassified government disclosures on unidentified phenomena, and speculation about what might lie hidden on the far side of the moon.

This resurgence of interest just so happens to coincide with the recent launch of Artemis II, NASA’s first crewed mission of the Artemis program, designed to fly four astronauts around the Moon and back in about 10 days. Whether or not there is any meaningful connection between the two, it’s clear that the eyes of many are shifting upwards. People, the world over, are looking for something more than anything this world has to offer.

But this new search isn’t just leading people to look to alien life to give them a greater meaning to their own. While some are looking to the heavens, many are looking to Heaven. As such, there’s also been a notable resurgence of interest in Christianity. Church attendance is rising in many places, Bible sales are increasing, and more people are seeking baptism than they have in years. While these two trends might seem unrelated, what they share is a growing dissatisfaction with the atheistic naturalism that has inundated our materialistic culture for decades.

For a long time now, much of the Western world has been reshaped by a naturalistic worldview—the belief that reality consists of nothing more than physical matter and impersonal chemical forces randomly acting and reacting to each other. The view has been solidly embedded within our modern education systems and cultural institutions. If “religion” or “spirituality” is ever acknowledged, it’s a primitive paganism—never Christianity. And increasingly, people are finding it seriously wanting.

It’s really not difficult to see why. A militant materialistic philosophy cannot account for those things that we all instinctively recognise as the most real, the most necessary, and the most significant, such as meaning, purpose, morality, and human value. If everything reduces to matter in motion, then concepts like right and wrong become purely subjective, fluid, and ultimately arbitrary. And yet, while many may claim this is true, no one lives as though it is. No one can. We all recognise that some things truly matter. Justice matters. Evil is real. Human life has inherent worth. None of these things exists purely in our imagination. They are real, regardless of what we, or the collective, think.

And so, on the one hand, people are told the universe is indifferent, and that meaning is a human construct that emerged as a coping mechanism. On the other hand, they cannot escape the conviction that certain actions, such as murder, terrorism, rape, and injustice, are objectively wrong. Few people are willing to act consistently at this point by claiming that all crimes, no matter how inhumane and horrendous, are morally neutral in and of themselves. And so, what we end up with is a philosophical inconsistency that quickly begins to fracture under the weight of real-life experiences.

The upward gaze was inevitable, really. Some look to the skies and wonder whether answers might lie beyond our world—whether some advanced extraterrestrial intelligence could explain what we cannot, or at least, paint us as part of something bigger than ourselves, something more significant than our boring, mundane lives.

Others turn to what’s tried and true: Christianity. They’re not seeking answers in distant galaxies, but much closer—in divine revelation. In both instances, the impulse reflects a recognition that humanity, left to itself, doesn’t have sufficient answers.

We live in a time characterised by dishonesty, confusion, and contradictory narratives. Even though those who reject mainstream thought do not agree on the fundamental aspects of reality. For many, truth feels forever elusive. Trust in everything and everyone is eroding rapidly. People are no longer confident that they can rely on what they have been told. Even “experts” in their fields are now viewed as paid or compromised propagandists.

It is in this chaotic climate that the desire for genuine clarity and perspective emerges. People want something black and white, something objective, something unchanging, something solid that they can anchor themselves to. People are reaching beyond themselves. While some are looking for the truth to be revealed from the heavens, others know that Truth has already been revealed from Heaven.

For those who do know the Truth, a real opportunity has been presented to us. The old secular and atheistic way has come undone. People are searching for answers—and they are often the answers that we have.

When a culture begins to question the foundations it once took for granted, it creates a vacuum—and vacuums are always filled. The only question is with what. Some will chase speculation, looking ever further into the unknown for meaning that will always remain just out of reach. Others will return to what is fixed, revealed, and sufficient.

The spiritual hunger we’re witnessing is real, but it can’t be satisfied by mere theories, trends, or distant possibilities. It will only be satisfied by Truth. And that means the responsibility now falls on those who know it—not merely to hold it, but to speak it clearly, confidently, and without compromise while the world seems ready to listen.

What is the goal of war? A war of defence is designed to defend the homeland and to punish the evil doer who would seek to take your lands, wealth and women. You could argue that the goal of a defensive war is to conserve or preserve the nation, its people and their way of life. A defensive war is an inherently just war because self-defence is a justified reason to use force against another nation.

A war of aggression, on the other hand, is about attacking and changing the status quo, or the way of the world, especially in the region or nation under attack. A war of aggression, therefore, is inherently transformative and therefore not conservative. It is also much less likely to be a just war, because one nation is not given inherent authority over another nation. Therefore, a war of aggression is both the antithesis of conservatism and very likely, you might even be able to argue inherently unjust.

While I am not a conservative, this topic is interesting because right now America is engaged in a war of aggression, and many conservatives are publicly supporting it. In fact, the predominant support for this war is coming from the conservative camp. Which is just another reason why I don’t consider myself a conservative; it is really a meaningless posture rather than a coherent ideology or philosophy of life. What is the purpose of saying, “I am a conservative?” Why would you do that? There are things we should preserve or conserve, and there are things we should progress and change, and there are things we should transform and restore. Nailing yourself to only one of these options, ideologically, is irrational, and the significant number of ways that conservatives often display they are not really seeking to conserve illustrates this.

This is important to understand: a war of aggression, which is what the US has engaged in, is inherently progressive or transformational. The type of change that is being sought is different depending on the war. For some, it is regime change, for others it is outright subjugation, for others it is annihilation and chaos. But the goal of a war of aggression is to change, not to conserve. In this case, the justification for this war has changed from moment to moment. It was claimed at one point that it was to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, at another it was claimed it was because Israel was going to attack, so the US had to attack first to protect its assets in the region, and at another point it was claimed that Iran was about to attack and so the US got in first. So, the story has changed, as is often the case in these sorts of wars, but whatever the justification offered, this war was an act of aggression, and the decapitation strikes show that the US wanted to change the Iranian regime.

Jereth Kok has some interesting things to say about this,

“Violently overthrowing the government of a foreign country has got to be one of the least conservative things that someone can do.

Let’s work this through. What does it mean to be “conservative”?

To be “conservative” means to prefer stability. To act with caution. To take things slowly. To be wary of quick fixes. To distrust shiny new objects. To reject radical change.

Russell Kirk (1918 – 1994) was a noted American conservative thinker who wrote a piece called Ten Conservative Principles. I think this is a pretty useful summary of what it means to be politically “conservative”.

Kirk argued that “conservatives are champions of custom, convention and continuity because they prefer the devil they know to the devil they don’t know.” “The continuity, the lifeblood, of a society must not be interrupted.” If things must change in a society, this change “ought to be gradual and discriminatory, never unfixing old interests at once.”

In other words, don’t go upsetting the apple cart. A system may be flawed; it may even have very serious, deeply embedded injustices. But rushing in and trying to fix everything at once in a society is almost guaranteed to make things even worse. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know—a new devil that you will create in your grand attempt to kill the old devil. Flawed systems should be worked on gradually and with great care; it is reckless to dive in with a jackhammer and blowtorch.

Kirk criticises “liberals and radicals” as “imprudent” men who “dash at their objectives without giving much heed to the risk of new abuses worse than the evils they hope to sweep away … Providence moves slowly, but the devil always hurries. Human society being complex, remedies cannot be simple if they are to be efficacious. The conservative declares that he acts only after sufficient reflection, having weighed the consequences. Sudden and slashing reforms are as perilous as sudden and slashing surgery.”

Social and political systems that serve millions of people aren’t created overnight; they cannot be created overnight. They are not like Ikea flatpack furniture that you can put together in an afternoon with an Allen key. According to Kirk, establishing working institutions is a process that is invariably “painful and slow”.

The polar opposite of conservatism is revolution. Revolution is the complete overthrow of a governing system, with the aim of replacing it with something wholly different. The problem with revolution is that it seeks to achieve the impossible—creating a healthy, functioning polity and society in an instant.

In other words, Kok is correctly arguing that regime change is a form of revolution, and revolution is the bread and butter of the progressive worldview. He gives examples of progressive revolutions in his article that demonstrate this. Progressives believe in overturning and changing society. They want to transform and change, and if they can do so radically, they will; no institution or element of society is safe from their transformative gaze. From marriage to government, to the church, to education, to every aspect of society, you will observe that progressives are on an endless journey to change things as much as possible.

When you recognise this, then you can see that regime change is simply the progressive worldview applied to foreign policy. Regime change wars show this in every way: the goal is to replace one regime with another, the goal is to stir up the people to turn on their own government to bring change, often colour revolutions (that is revolutions equipped and aided by foreign agencies) are an integral part of the process, usually instability is fostered, and sanctions are used to break the economy and build in people a desire for change. In every way, regime-change wars are a version of the progressive passion project. This is fascinating because it shows how conservatives have been overcome by progressive impulses, even if it is mainly in relation to foreign policy.

What it also shows, though, is that the conservative worldview, at least as maintained by many of its proponents, is not a coherent and consistent perspective. They are conservatives in some ways, but they will throw those principles out the door when their favoured political leader decides to go to war with their preferred enemy. Trump, who I would argue is not a conservative and never was, is the head of the nominal conservative party in the US, and so many conservatives will reflexively support his efforts, and many progressives will reflexively oppose them. This is just the way of things.

Now, a sophisticated response that some might give to my piece here is that they know that this war is not meant to conserve anything; it is meant to bring change. In fact, I would agree with them. This war is an example of the process of creative destruction. Creative destruction is when systems are shaken by new events or new technology which forces rapid change, and which benefits those who are ready for that change. Whether or not this leads to a better world is a moot point; it will lead to a better world for some and not for others. And it will bring change overall.

Creative destruction is an economic term,

“Creative destruction is a concept introduced by the Austrian economist Joseph Schumpeter in the early 20th century. It refers to the process by which innovation and technological progress lead to the continual transformation of the economic structure, resulting in the destruction of old industries and the creation of new ones. This dynamic process is considered a key driver of economic growth and development.

Innovation serves as the spark that ignites change, whether through the introduction of cutting-edge technologies, the creation of novel products and services, or the daring initiatives of entrepreneurs challenging conventional norms. This constant pursuit of improvement and adaptation creates a competitive environment where the old must yield to the new, a phenomenon encapsulated by Joseph Schumpeter’s concept of creative destruction.”

In other words, the point of creative destruction is to shake things up so that you have an opportunity to bring some of the changes that you want to bring in any given system. In a stable system from which many benefit, the desire for change is relatively low; however, if you can create instability, you can create the motivation for change in many people in that system.

Therefore, I concur with those who argue that President Trump is seeking to not conserve, but to actively bring change through this war. In fact, his real goals and the level of change he really wants might not have even been publicly stated. That being said, this does not justify a war of aggression, nor does it mean that his choice was a wise one. When you unleash a war of this magnitude on the world, you risk creating a situation that you cannot control, that can escalate very quickly. I would argue we have already seen this happen. This would explain why the President has made many claims about the war ending quickly that have not come to pass, because even though he was intending to bring about change, that rate of change is now out of his hands, and hence the war is dragging on.

This is a useful opportunity to again observe that conservatism is not a coherent perspective. Nor is it really being progressive. Rather, you need an objective marker for your reality, for instance, being a Christian that holds to the teachings of Jesus and the Church throughout history, and you need to evaluate things in society on a case-by-case basis to determine what should progress, what should be conserved, and what needs to be restored.

Hence, Kok is right that regime change wars are not conservative. However, we should not be surprised that conservatives are not holding their ideology coherently or consistently, because it is not a coherent or consistent ideology in the first place. This is why I do not call myself a conservative and have not for some time.

Following the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023, which killed over 1,200 people and led to the ongoing war on Gaza, Israel did not implement a crackdown on gun ownership. Instead, the government actually expanded and encouraged legal firearm licensing within its regulated framework, resulting in a dramatic surge in applications and approved permits.

Prior to October 7, Israeli civilian gun policy was strict and controlled. Israeli citizens do not have an inherent right to gun ownership; they must apply for a license and meet strict conditions, including a clean criminal record, medical certification, and an explicit reason for needing a firearm.

Licenses are “may issue”, not automatic, and are carefully vetted. Each permit applies to a specific firearm, with tight limits on ammunition storage and frequent renewals.

However, in the months and years following October 7, Israel experienced an unprecedented rise in civilian gun license applications.

By mid-2025, over 403,000 gun license requests had been submitted since the attack — more than most of the previous two decades combined. Of these, over 217,000 received conditional approval and about 165,000 were finalised as permanent licenses.

Roughly 335,000 Israelis now legally own firearms, according to National Security Ministry data.

A separate report from late 2025 noted that more than 220,000 gun licenses had been issued since October 7, effectively more than doubling the number of licensed civilian firearms in the country compared with pre-war figures.

Rather than tightening restrictions, Israeli authorities — particularly National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir — took steps that facilitated broader access to legal firearms.

Ben-Gvir explicitly supported expanding eligibility and processing applications rapidly to allow more citizens to arm themselves for personal and community defense, according to World Israel News.

Measures included temporarily empowering additional staff to process licenses and fast-track applications as demand surged. The government’s stance was that armed civilians could enhance security in an era of heightened terror threats.

While these steps did not remove the legal requirement to justify a need for a firearm, they relaxed procedural barriers and expedited approvals.

Not all changes went unchallenged. In November 2024, Israel’s High Court of Justice ordered a review of thousands of gun licenses issued after October 7, finding that some permits had been issued without proper legal authority under the Firearm Law of 1949.

The court’s decision underscored that, even amid emergency policy shifts, standard legal procedures remain integral to firearm regulation.

The licensing surge reflects widespread fear and insecurity among Israeli civilians following the attack, with many applying for weapons to protect themselves and their families.

Unlike Australia, Israel did not tighten gun ownership laws after October 7. Instead, there has been a major increase in civilian firearm licensing and approved permits.

Government policy, especially under National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, expanded access and sped up approvals.

The move illustrates a shift by the Israeli government toward encouraging legal firearm possession amid heightened security concerns, rather than imposing stricter restrictions.

In contrast, Australia’s federal and state governments have acted swiftly to reinforce the nation’s already strict gun laws. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced immediate reforms, including a nationwide gun buyback—the largest since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre—aimed at removing hundreds of thousands of firearms from circulation.

Additional measures include limiting the types of guns an individual may own, instituting periodic license reviews, expanding the use of intelligence data in background checks, and accelerating the creation of a national firearm register.

Furthermore, New South Wales Premier Chris Minns pledged to introduce the toughest state-level gun laws in the country, potentially banning certain rapid-fire mechanisms and conducting comprehensive audits of existing licenses.

The two nations have taken a fundamentally opposite approach. Israel considers legal firearm ownership a path to greater security, while Australia treats it as a liability to be curtailed and cracked down on.

Unfortunately, only time, and often tragic experience, will reveal which approach to gun policy works best.

Canada’s Bill C-9 marks a worrying development in the country’s legal approach to speech and “hate-motivated” crimes. Introduced in September 2025 by the Minister of Justice, the bill passed third reading in the House of Commons last month by a vote of 186-137, with support from the Liberals and Bloc Québécois, and opposition from the Conservatives, NDP, and Greens.

The legislation is framed as a response to “rising incidents of hatred,” including antisemitism, which accounts for almost 70% of all police-reported religious hate crimes in Canada. It proposes amendments to the Criminal Code that expand offences related to hate-motivated conduct, including intimidation or obstruction of access to places of worship and other cultural or religious sites.

It also introduces standalone hate crime offences where an underlying criminal act is motivated by hatred toward identifiable groups, and it criminalises the public display of certain symbols associated with terrorist organisations or the Nazi swastika. In addition, the bill codifies a definition of “hatred” as involving “detestation or vilification” that goes beyond mere dislike, drawing from existing Supreme Court jurisprudence but applying it more broadly across the law.

The bill also makes structural changes that have raised genuine concern among Christian communities. Most notably, it removes the longstanding “good faith” religious defence found in section 319(3) of the Criminal Code. That provision had historically protected individuals who expressed opinions based on sincerely held religious beliefs or sacred texts, provided those expressions were made in “good faith.”

Yet for many, its removal reflects a worrying shift in how Christian speech may now be treated under Canadian law. Without this explicit safeguard, expressions of biblical teaching, particularly concerning Christian morality and sexual ethics, may be more vulnerable to prosecution.

The bill also eliminates the requirement that the Attorney General approve certain hate propaganda charges before they proceed. This change lowers a procedural safeguard that previously acted as a check against inappropriate or overly broad prosecutions. Even if the legal threshold for conviction remains high, the pathway to investigation and charge becomes easier, and that alone has implications for how individuals assess legal risk.

A fundamental concern among Christian leaders and organisations is how these changes may affect the public expression of Christianity and its core doctrines. Biblical teaching on matters such as human sexuality, sin, repentance, conversion, and moral order—drawn, in particular, from passages such as Romans 1 or 1 Corinthians 6—has long been part of Christian preaching and discipleship.

Under the framework proposed in the bill, such teachings could be evaluated in light of whether they are perceived to involve “detestation” or “vilification,” particularly if they are understood as applying to protected identity groups. As such, the legislation will introduce a dangerously subjective element to the law, which could see people prosecuted because somebody else chose to take offence.

Even where no incitement to violence exists, the determination of whether speech crosses a legal line would rest with prosecutors and courts, taking into account context, intent, and audience receptions—much of which is largely subjectively evaluated.

This introduces a level of legal ambiguity and uncertainty that will, undoubtedly, have a chilling effect on Christian expression. Individuals may refrain from lawful expression, not because it is prohibited, but because the cost of testing that boundary is too high. In effect, the bill will indirectly undermine the notion of democracy, which hinges on the free expression of the people. The terrifying possibility of complaints, police involvement, costly legal proceedings, and public scrutiny can be enough to discourage even lawful speech.

For clergy, educators, and lay Christians, this could translate into a reluctance to preach certain texts of Scripture, teach particular doctrines of the faith, or engage in public moral discourse. The result may not be widespread prosecution of Christians, but rather, a gradual relegation and ultimate silencing of public Christianity.

The bill’s provisions regarding intimidation and obstruction also raise questions about the limits of public religious witness. While intended to protect access to places of worship and community spaces, the language concerning actions that “provoke a state of fear” or “hinder” access is again open to interpretation. Could peaceful activities, such as prayer vigils or public demonstrations, particularly on issues such as abortion and euthanasia, be construed as falling within the scope of these offences? For Christians whose faith includes a call to public witness, this creates even more uncertainty about where lawful expression ends and criminal liability begins.

At a more fundamental level, the debate surrounding the bill highlights a broader question about the nature of law itself. It’s something we’ve spoken about at Caldron Pool for some time now. Laws are not amoral legal procedures. All law embodies moral judgements about what does and does not harm, the definition of human dignity, and what amounts to the “common good.” In short, law is legislated morality, and as such, it is fundamentally religious.

In this case, the legislation reflects underlying assumptions about God—whether He exists at all—about morality—what is truly good and what constitutes harm—and about who ultimately has the authority to define those moral boundaries. Consequently, the bill is not attempting to enforce neutral principles, but rather a specific moral ideology that can conflict with the teachings of Scripture.

The result is a nation confronted with two competing moral frameworks—one seeking to persuade through dialogue, reason, and open debate; the other advancing through the coercive power of the state.

On one hand is a state-defined understanding of harm and dignity, enforced through legal threat. On the other hand, there is a theological framework grounded in the authority of Jesus Christ, which defines truth and morality according to the Bible. Where these systems conflict, the state will ultimately enforce its vision through coercive power—the threat of violence and financial ruin.

By removing the “good faith” religious defence, Bill C-9 places Christian teaching within a legal framework where its acceptability may be judged according to religious and moral standards external and contrary to the faith. In that sense, the state effectively operates as an arbiter of the boundaries or permissible theological expression—think, heresy trials.

The bill remains under consideration, and its final form may yet change. Nevertheless, the concerns it raises reflect a broader trend across many Western nations, where longstanding Christian foundations have been set aside in favour of an increasingly fluid and malleable understanding of “pluralism.”

Too often, the fundamental freedoms that helped shape Western civilisation are being eroded in an effort to accommodate alternative moral frameworks that diverge from historic Christianity. In their place, new categories of wrongdoing are emerging in law and culture, where causing offence or contradicting the claims of particular identity groups is increasingly treated as a punishable harm.

Even if such legislation does not lead to widespread arrests of Christians, it is likely to produce a chilling effect on their participation in public life. The issue is not only what is prosecuted, but what is pre-emptively avoided. Christians may not be silenced by the prison cell, but the mere possibility is enough to push Christianity out of the public square and into the shadows.

The marginalisation of Christianity right across the Western world isn’t incidental. It’s intentional. What our opponents didn’t factor in, however, was that Christianity has never depended on cultural dominance or political power to survive or thrive. Again and again, across centuries and societies, Christianity has endured pressure, opposition, and even militant suppression.

Whatever the aims of the present moment, the Christian faith has a long and well-documented history of enduring in the face of adversity. In fact, history shows that the Church—much like the Israelites under Egyptian oppression—does not diminish under oppression, but multiplies (Exodus 1:12).

So, whatever happens, we don’t need to fear an assault on Christianity—not even its “death”! In the words of G.K. Chesterton: “Christendom has had a series of revolutions, and in each one of them Christianity has died. Christianity has died many times and risen again; for it had a God who knew the way out of the grave.”

In 1974, Charles “Chuck” Colson, former special counsel to President Richard Nixon, was jailed for his involvement in the Watergate scandal.

Colson, named as one of the “Watergate Seven,” pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for attempting to discredit Pentagon analyst Daniel Ellsberg, who had leaked the top-secret Pentagon Papers to the New York Times in an effort to expose the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.

A year before his imprisonment, while he was still under investigation and facing arrest, Colson’s close friend, Thomas L. Phillips, gave him a copy of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. Colson devoured the book and soon after became a Christian.

Colson, who was derided by the media at the time for converting to Christianity just prior to his trial, went on to serve seven months of his one-to-three-year sentence. But his newfound faith was no trivial ploy to reduce his punishment.

Upon his release, Colson went on to create Prison Fellowship Ministries, an organisation dedicated to ministering to inmates, former prisoners, and their families. He also established the Christian teaching and resource organisation, The Colson Centre.

In 1982, on Easter Sunday, Colson delivered a sermon to a group of prison inmates. One of the prisoners later recalled the atmosphere as Colson preached. The prisoners were “spellbound,” he said.

As soon as he had finished speaking, “everyone in the place stood up and cheered,” and many of the inmates came forward for prayer.

In his message, Colson spoke a little about his own experience meeting Christ and admitted that his involvement in the Watergate scandal played a crucial part in convincing him of the truth of the resurrection.

Colson explained:

I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me.

How?

Because twelve men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it.

Every one was beaten, tortured, stoned and put in prison.

They would not have endured that if it weren’t true.

Watergate embroiled twelve of the most powerful men in the world and they couldn’t keep a lie for three weeks.

You’re telling me twelve apostles could keep a lie for 40 years?

Absolutely impossible.

He has risen, indeed!

The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as the most pivotal event in all of history. It is not only the foundation of Christianity, but a cornerstone of Western civilisation itself. Much of what we take for granted traces back, in one way or another, to this single moment—from our dating system, which divides history into B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini, “in the year of our Lord”), to enduring ideas about sacrifice, charity, love, justice, and law.

Though it is often dismissed as belonging purely to faith, there remains a compelling case that it rests on solid historical footing. What follows is a look at several key pieces of evidence that point to the resurrection as history rather than myth—drawing on ancient sources, early Christian testimony, and even references beyond the Christian tradition, while also considering the profound impact this claim has had on the world ever since.

1. Empty Tomb Discovered by Multiple Witnesses

The discovery of Jesus’ empty tomb is recorded in all four Gospels and attested by multiple witnesses, including Mary Magdalene, other women, and later the apostles. Despite varying details, the consistency of these accounts demonstrates a shared historical event. The empty tomb was a foundational claim publicly proclaimed in Jerusalem, where it could have easily been disproven if false.

2. Women as First Witnesses

In 1st-century Jewish and Roman society, women’s testimony was often considered unreliable. Yet, the Gospels unanimously report women as the first to discover the empty tomb and encounter the risen Jesus. If the story were fabricated, male witnesses would likely have been chosen to bolster credibility, making the inclusion of women a mark of authenticity.

3. Disciples’ Transformation and Martyrdom

After Jesus’ crucifixion, the disciples were initially terrified, hiding from the authorities. Yet, within weeks, they boldly preached the resurrection, even under threat of death. Their dramatic shift from fear to boldness and willingness to face martyrdom for their beliefs demonstrates they were genuinely convinced of the resurrection, having personally encountered the risen Jesus.

4. Rapid Spread of Christianity Despite Persecution

Christianity spread rapidly across the Roman Empire, despite intense persecution and no political or military backing. The resurrection was the central message fueling this growth, with believers risking their lives to proclaim it. The willingness of early Christians to endure suffering supports the idea that they were convinced of the truth of Jesus’ resurrection.

5. Multiple Post-Resurrection Appearances

The New Testament records Jesus appearing to individuals (like Mary Magdalene), small groups (like the disciples), and even a crowd of over 500 people at once, as noted by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15. These varied appearances, over 40 days, reduce the likelihood of hallucination or isolated delusion, pointing to a real event.

6. Consistency of Early Christian Testimony

Early Christian creeds, such as the one in 1 Corinthians 15:3-7, affirm the resurrection and date to within a few years of Jesus’ death. These creeds, along with consistent oral traditions and detailed Gospel accounts, show that belief in the resurrection was a core conviction from the earliest days of Christianity, not a later invention.

7. Paul’s Conversion from Persecutor to Apostle

Saul of Tarsus, a zealous Pharisee who persecuted Christians, underwent a radical transformation after encountering the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus. Renamed Paul, he became Christianity’s greatest missionary. His dramatic conversion is attested in his own letters and is difficult to explain without a genuine supernatural encounter.

8. Lack of Contemporary Refutations from Opponents

Despite opposition from Jewish and Roman authorities, no contemporary records exist of anyone successfully refuting the empty tomb or resurrection claims. If the body had been available or the story false, opponents could have easily disproven it in Jerusalem, where the events occurred.

9. Tomb Guarded by Roman Soldiers

The Gospels report that Jesus’ tomb was sealed and guarded by Roman soldiers to prevent theft or tampering. The discovery of the empty tomb despite these precautions makes explanations like grave-robbing implausible, supporting the resurrection narrative.

10. Disciples Faced Martyrdom for Their Claims

Many of Jesus’ disciples, including Peter and James, faced martyrdom for proclaiming the resurrection. It’s unlikely they would die for a known lie. Their willingness to suffer and die for their belief demonstrates they genuinely witnessed the risen Jesus.

11. Non-Christian Sources Confirm Jesus’ Death and Followers’ Beliefs

Non-Christian historians like Josephus and Tacitus confirm Jesus’ crucifixion and the early Christians’ belief in his resurrection. While these sources don’t affirm the resurrection, they verify the historical context of Jesus’ death and the rapid rise of a movement centred on his resurrection.

12. Resurrection Central to Early Christian Preaching

The resurrection was the cornerstone of early Christian preaching, as seen in Acts and Paul’s letters. This emphasis, even in the face of scepticism and persecution, demonstrates that the event was a historical reality that shaped the movement’s identity.

13. Jewish Leaders Couldn’t Disprove the Empty Tomb

The Jewish leaders, according to Matthew’s Gospel, claimed the disciples stole Jesus’ body, but this explanation lacks credibility, given the Roman guard and the disciples’ initial fear. Their failure to produce a body or a convincing counter-narrative supports the resurrection account.

14. Resurrection Fulfils Old Testament Prophecies
