A council in Victoria has plans to “improve gender equality” by introducing female only pedestrian crossing symbols. Brimbank Council’s request comes after Melbourne’s city centre installed 10 female pedestrian lights last year.

Mayor Margaret Giudice told the Herald Sun, changing the generic, genderless figure would “show women and girls that they are important and valued in our community.”
